BW/BW2 Black City & White Forest: What's the trick?

I

Incinermyn

I've been meaning to ask this question for a while but hadn't been able to bring myself to. For some time now, I've been utilizing the Entralinks of my Pokemon Black and White games via my two DS Lite systems in order to try and get the most out of them, especially when it came to obtaining Pass Orbs and revitalize the areas of White Forest and Black City; however, I noticed a small issue with the latter locations. In the games, an NPC character at their respective Pokemon Centers preaches about how people can be invited from White Forest into Black City and vice-versa, and that the population changes over time. However, it seems like I've suddenly maxed out the population of White Forest/Black City in their respective games and, no matter how much time passes, it doesn't decrease at all. So, I was wondering if the games are programmed to automatically keep any NPC characters invited from the other version, or if there was some way to make people go away so I can invite others who are otherwise left behind in the Entralink?

The NPCs will go away if you leave them alone, I know that much, and I know it caps somewhere.
I haven't actually bothered to try cleaning out my own Black City yet (I don't go overboard with maintenance, but I check up on it every couple days), so maybe the solution is to just let them stagnate for a while...?

I'm sorry I can't be of more help right now; I haven't tried to get rid of any NPCs (yet) in my Black City to make room for more.

It caps at 10 in both games.

Anyway, try not entering the City/Forest for a few days and see if any NPCs/grass disappear.

All right then. I usually play through each game every other day to do daily events (including battling NPC trainers in Black City), so that may explain why the characters don't leave.

Yeah, after about a week or so of not going in, the inhabitants will have either left or consider leaving. Some are more fickle than others though. If you want to get some people to leave but keep some others, visit White Forest or Black City every couple of days or so and only talk to the ones you want to keep. The others will lose interest. That being said, the inhabitants present when you first get there will always stay there.

I have to say I'm rather jealous that you get to pick and choose. Me, I have not been able to Entralink with anyone in over a year.

Not true. It took me 1 month to get to White Forest in my game (stopped playing) and when I finally got there, there was not a single patch of grass nor an inhabitant.

EDIT: On my Black, I arrived to a city full of people and left my game alone for a few days, came back to find half the residents gone.

^confirming the above because the exact same thing happened to me. I had to raid a friend's White Forest to get my population back up again.

Initially, my Black City was completely abandoned when I finally arrived in it after beating the game. It took me just over a month to get there because I paced myself. It was a few more weeks before I realized that I could revitalize one game's location using my other one.

Also, I did a little research, and apparently I'll have to wait until residents leave one of the locations before I can reuse the Entralink to invite people back to them from the respective games. Figures... Guess I just have to be patient. :/

Hmm, that's odd. I hadn't played my White version for like 2 months, and when I returned to White Forest, everyone was gone except the three who were there when I first arrived.

How do I get my grass to re appear with only 1 DS? Why in the world did they do it this way in the first place? Not everyone has 2 DS's B/W or even friends to do this to keep it alive. Why do this to those that can't even keep it alive and keep everything going every single day.:(

btw, even if I let all the current residents disappear, will I be able to get other NPCs if I just connect with the other game again?

I'd presume so, otherwise that would defeat the part of the purpose of having the Entralink to begin with.

Residents disappear pretty slowly. But I don't know why it took 2 months and you still had residents in the Forest.

It is impossible for the grass to reappear using only 1 game. If you want grass in the Forest, you have to use the Entralink using the other version or keep the grass that is there when you first start the game.

Why do they do this?

Yes.

That's just great. Why would they do this? There is a flaw with almost every Pokemon game and they always leave something not completed. Just like they did with that cave in FR/LG. They never finished it before they came out in 04 XD.:)

Actually, it's a really good business tactic if you ask me. The main reason Pokemon has lasted as long as it has is because Nintendo's good at marketing their products and knows how to do things just right so that people have even more of a reason to buy their games. The "incompleteness" of the games you mention is fully intentional, otherwise Pokemon wouldn't be the money maker that it is.

They won't dissapear if you don't open the game. If you have a full forest/city and you talk to all, then don't play for a year and open the game again, everyone should be there.

That would kind of make sense of why I still had a "full" Black City even when I hadn't played Pokemon Black for a few weeks here-and-there.

They might be making money this way but in my book it is pure laziness. That is a fact. They do this to get others to get the other version that they could have used on something else. Most completed games are still played today but in many different ways XD.:)

What's the amount of time needed for you to be able to gather people from a game you've already gotten residents from? I remember I accidentlaly let one of the White City inhabitants disappear. I Entralinked with someone I knew with a Black version, but I couldn't find anyone to bring over.

What I am getting at is those with only 1 DS (Like Me) can't ever get it to come back at all. When they made the game they should have made the forest grass like any other rout grass so we could catch the Pokemon in there at any time. It is pointless to make something that disappears but once it is gone it is gone forever unless you find someone that can do it or buy 2 DS's and the other version. That is nearly impossible for me. Thanks to their stupid creation I will never see that part of the forest again unless I get really lucky. I doubt that I will ever meet anyone as I don't know anyone here in the U.S. near where I live so I can make it regenerate. I did not realize it did not ever come back until I noticed it did not come back when Winter rolled around again. At first I thought it was a winter only event. They sure screwed up yet AGAIN. This better be fixed in B/W2 XD. I am fuming right now so I will leave it there.:(
