Hey everyone! Over the past few months, I've slowly gotten back into the Pokemon TCG and have introduced many friends and kids in my neighborhood to the wonders of Pokemon TCG. Sadly, there is no league in my area but one friend is hosting a small private tournament. "Admission" is $10 and we've already got 15 people participating, so the 1st place prize is $100, 2nd is $50 at the moment. The format is Holon Phantoms-On because the really old cards are either super OP, not fun or lose due to power creep. 12 of them are using past World Championship decks like Plox, Accelgor/Gothitelle, Darkrai, Raybees. etc... I've been spending unbelievable amounts of time lately testing and tweaking this fun Semi-Unlimited deck that can stand a chance at winning against these past high-level builds! I second guess my own decisions ALOT so your thoughts and opinions are very welcome, just keep it constructive. So here it goes...
Pokemon: 19
As for the Pokemon lines, they look pretty solid to me and I've been through many revisions tweaking the Blastoise line. People in Modified play really thick 4-1-4 or 4-0-4 lines, which is just overkill when you have access to the consistency cards of Unlimited. 2 Mewtwo is all I have ever needed/will use because we have this agreement to not let the tourney escalate to a boring Mewtwo war by using any more. I threw in Raikou EX & Holon's Castform to snipe those powerful bench-sitters in Unlimited like Claydol which has came in handy MANY times! The Supporter line is where I'm lost though... I chose Mr. Briney's Compassion as my choice of scoop up card because I hate flips but I like the option of prize denial or energy reassignment. Super Potion is one of my favorite cards in the deck as it usually delays a KO by a turn so I can keep tanking and really stretch the longevity of my Big Basics. I initially used Max Potion but I don't like stretching my resources to recover the energy discarded on a loaded Keldeo and I rarely needed much more damage healed over what Super Potion could. I'm not crazy about Dawn Stadium but it has came in handy a game or two to throw off my opponent's damage calculations. 4 Call Energy is here to stay for sure because it's never affected my damage output, the payoff is huge and I haven't ran into a problem getting basic energy with 10 Water. So that's it (I think), but let me know what you think!
