This card provides 1 [C] Energy. As long as this card is attached to a Pokemon, it provides either [W], [L], [F], or [M] Energy, but only 1 Energy at a time.

People were running this in Garchomp/Altaria and the other Blend Energy in Darkrai/Hydreigon but I'd much rather just run both types of basic energy. Garchomp's first attack discards special energy and so does enhanced hammer, so depending on special energy isn't a good idea.

People run the Blend Energy because it counts as both Energy requirements for the Dragons' attacks, not just for the sake of playing Blend Energy. For example, WLFM can provide F for Garchomp's first attack, and let's say you draw into a Fighting next. Then it can provide W allowing you to use Garchomp's second attack. Basic Energy offers no such versatility.

Either way, I'm really glad that these fit so well with the Dragons we'll get. I doubt it'll shake up any of the other attackers we currently have except for those able to take advantage of it (using Hydreigon or Klinklang) but either way, we're in for something interesting.

That's a reason to run it, but I think it's more important to be less prone to Garchomp's first attack.

I think both blend energies will be played a lot, but this one seems to be the superior one. This combination of types seems to help more decks. There's Garchomp, of course, but there's also Empoleon/Terrakion to consider, and these types are generally more common for strong basic pokemon, allowing them to be paired easily. Zekrom(s), Kyurem(s), Cobalion, Registeel EX, Landorus, and Terrakion(s) all come to mind. I'm not saying that they'll be top tier, but this energy seems to benefit more combinations than GFPD does. The only potential that I really see in that one is Darkrai/Hydreigon and Shaymin EX and Virizion. Besides that, we don't seem to have many usable fire, grass or psychic types. Especially not together.
