So yeah here's my Tournament Report for my performance at Autumn Battle Roads for 2011-2012 (HGSS-On) at A-Z Comics in Blue Springs, MO. I had a great time even though my Win/Loss Record was 3/2.
I was running MewPluff (Cinccino/Zoroark) for HGSS-On, I also made a few tweaks incase I went up against Trainer Lock again:
Pokemon (19)
4 Mew Prime TR
3-3 Zoroark BW
2-2 Cinccino BW
0-0-2 Jumpluff HS
2 Tornadus EP
0-1 Muk UD
Trainers/Supporters (27)
4 Revive
4 Junk Arm
4 Pokemon Catcher
4 Pokemon Collector
4 Professor Oak's New Theory
4 Professor Juniper
3 PlusPower
Energies (14)
4 Double Colorless
4 Rainbow Energy
3 Psychic
3 Grass
Deck Total: 60
1st Round
Opponent: Toby
Deck: TyRam (Typhlosion/Reshiram)
This matchup was interesting, I start off with a solid 1st turn Mew See Off to get Jumpluff out in the Lost Zone with Tornadus on my bench however I was concerned about his Reshiram KOing my Mew's back so I tried to power up Zoroark with a DCE, manage to KO at least 1 Reshiram, managed to Mass Attack with Mew with a few damage shy of a KO on his other Reshiram that he got back with Revive and hoping to draw into another PONT or Juniper I didn't, he swept for 3 straight prizes while I had difficulty getting what I needed cause I was banking on that extra draw supporter I needed to win the game and the only one I had was PONT.
Win/Loss Record: 0-1
2nd Round
Opponent: Nick Pruitt
Deck: DonChamp (Donphan/Machamp)
This matchup against DonChamp I'll admit was much better than at Game Cafe, I manage to get a solid lead again with Mew and Tornadus absorbing his EQ's from Donphan while I setup my bench and from there it was one prize exchange after another until I beat him but it was really close. He was 2 prizes away from winning and I was in the lead on prizes cause I managed to get around his Donphan with Catcher not just Tornadus and I got the setup I needed to win.
Before the tournament he said he ran a 1-0-1 Reuniclus line in his DonChamp deck to spread damage counters over to Zekrom to utilize Outrage for KO's however I drew a Catcher early game and KO'ed his Solosis before he had a chance to use Reuniclus and I used that to my advantage by taking out his Zekroms with Zoroark. Despite that it was still a really close game between me and him however disappointingly he said he decided to quit playing Pokemon TCG competitively and I asked him If it was because of the current format and he said no and that he became a Judge for the game and wanted to stick with Casual play for now cause he got burned out on playing for years I guess.
Win/Loss Record: 1-1
3rd Round
Opponent: Tiffany
Deck: Tyranitar/Thundurus
This was hardly a fair matchup since she started out with only 1 Larvitar while I had an amazing setup with Mew getting off Jumpluff to fill my bench to start Mass Attacking like a boss. I had like 3 Basics out compared to her only 1 and I win by a Turn 3 Donk. I then had a rematch with her for fun and I made an amazing comeback but she was ahead by 1 in the prize race in which I lost but just barely. Shame but oh well, I had a great time so far. Had I of not gone first I would've lost by not topdecking a PONT to fix my hand.
Win/Loss Record: 2-1
4th Round
Opponent: Some Asian Guy from Nebraska (forgot his name)
Deck: TyRam (Typhlosion/Reshiram)
This was a much better played matchup against TyRam where I was playing it safe avoiding him from KO'ing my Mews with Reshiram while I powered up Zoroark and Foul Played Blue Flare for prizes, tried to max out my bench for Mass Attack and scored some prizes along the way and I almost decked myself with Juniper. He tried to get around the damage with his Typhlosion's and it was a pain though, I think I was 2 prizes away from winning but it was a very close game. Had I ran Kyurem to get around his deck with Outrage it would've helped probably especially since I would have Type Advantage thus it would've resulted in a win but alas, P!P had to cut the rest of Red Collection in Emerging Powers. Shame on them!
Win/Loss Record: 2-2
5th Round
Opponent: Some guy (forgot his name)
Deck: Emboar/Samurott
This was the only matchup where I had the Jumpluff's I needed to LZ with Mew stuck in my hand 1st turn, so I had to ride the game out til I drew a PONT to shuffle back in my Jumpluff's to LZ with Mew and I did while managing to get a solid setup and swept the board for game. I was way ahead of him on prizes once I got the PONT on Turn 3 or 4 but it was so worth it. He made a huge misplay evolving his Tepig into Emboar with Rare Candy and all I had to do was slap a DCE on Zoroark to Catcher his Emboar and Foul Play to copy it's attack for 150 enough for the kill and I won. Still gotta say I did much better playwise in this BR's compared to my last one this year.
Win/Loss Record: 3-2
All in all I had a blast, hope I do better when Noble Victories is released next month at Cities. Going over my thoughts over Battle Roads, yes TyRam is an annoying deck to beat however I still stand by saying that If I ran Kyurem over Tornadus in MewPluff my odds of beating TyRam would of increased ten fold. Sure it gets Revenge KO'ed easily but it's a nice backup incase Zorua hasn't evolved into Zoroark yet plus it's a Basic. I still wonder how Kyurem would of faired against DonChamp over Tornadus. Sure it would've took 60 instead of 40 but at least it would've done 140 damage to Donphan including Weakness using Outrage and that's already enough to KO it with a DCE. Reshiram on the other hand I have to be lucky enough they don't use PlusPower with Blue Flare unless I slap an Eviolite on Kyurem of course.
