Well, Fire isn't as popular as it used to be, but there is still Magmorter around, and the occasional Infernape.
I think that Gorebyss could do some decent dents in Marmorter. With a DRE, you hit for 40 damage (plus weakness), and you confuse. So, if you attack a Magmorter Lv.X, you hit for 80, and there is only a 50% chance that Magmorter will even get to attack.
Discuss.

I play Gorebyss as a deck and I played it against magmortar yesterday and in a deck it can be out fast enough that you can KO a magmar before it evolves/.

I don't doubt the abilities of Gorebyss as a deck (I'm considering throwingo one together). But I'm talking about as a tech, it can save yourself from a lot of pain.

As a tech it is only good against magmortar and it is an easy KO if they just bring up another magmortar.

True, but you can pule out a a lonely Magmorter on the bench that has no energy on it.

Octillery helps with far more matchups. Although the dragoff attack is pretty sweet against claydols.

Don't use gorebyss as a tech. Play it as your main attacker if you're against magmortar. Octillery's the tech.

I though Gorebyss would be the tech to play, since it in a way cancles out DRE's negative affect. It does more damage instead of less with a DRE on, and confusion.
Plus can stall, for no energy, and can drag out that Claydol.
