I'm going to a BREAKpoint prerelease next week, and I want to get a good idea of what is being played and what is successful, as well as pull rates. Please share decks that you have used, as well as successful decks and their strategies. Thank you in advance;)!

I'm going to go to the earliest one I can, but due to the snow storm in my area it got cancelled. When I do get a chance to attend one, I will most likely be playing something with hypno and all night stadium. I will see if I can trade for a darkrai ex afterwords though. I think it really depends on what you pull and what you are interested in playing at the tournament

Deck Garage is for complete deck lists only. Thus this thread has been moved to... Player Help and Advice?

@bbninjas / @Vom, feel free to move this elsewhere as you see fit.

I'm going to a prerelease tomorrow morning so I will post what won the tournament and what was good. I think of you get a sycamore in a pack that's good and a must to use it.

The general strategy for any prerelease is to use cards that a) Let you draw/search through your deck b) Can easily accelerate energy or other resources c) Hits hard for little energy. It is important to keep in mind that decks are going to be naturally slow and lack consistency.

This generally means you will be wanting to add effectively all Trainers you pull until your deck, especially if they allow for draw/search. Certain Pokemon are also instant inclusions. In a Roaring Skies prerelease I played in, the Meowth of the set was a popular card inclusion, as it let you draw two cards for a single attachment, something valuable at prereleases, where drawing through your deck is difficult. The Jirachi of the same set was also a no-brainer, as it allowed you a Trainer's Mail for 7 cards as well as had a versatile ability. Unevolved Pokemon that hit hard/have utility are also generally your best choices, as they are much more consistent then evolved versions.

Pokemon I'd consider using if I was to go to a BREAKPoint Prerelease include the following:

- Kricketot, if running a [G] deck. The Ability to find 3 Grass Pokemon (Basic and Stages) is a great opportunity for a consistent deck. If you pull a lot of Grass types and a nice bundle of Kricketot, I would seriously consider running Grass. It's evolution also looks quite powerful, able to hit 100 damage for a single energy every two turns.
- Durant, as your opponent may get dead draws every so often, allowing mill to be a bit more viable. There are also less cards to mill, which is nice. A purely Durant/Kricketot deck could even work!
- Lapras, because it attack can find Trainer cards for an attachment and has a decent amount of HP. Only use if you're running water energy and you pulled many good Trainer cards.
- Sigilpyh, as it is a high HP Pokemon with an interesting retaliation attack. Could be viable, but may not. Gimmicky.
- Trubbish - energy denial is very viable in the limited resources of a prerelease.
- Phantump/Trevenant, due to Phantump's Ascension attack that allows consistency. You'd only use this if you pull a 2-2+ line, tbh.
- Gible, could be useful for Fighting decks to gain a bit of draw power. Rattata could also be an option.
- If you're lucky enough to pull Gyarados-EX, Darkrai-EX, Togekiss-EX or Palkia-EX, you may like to think about building a deck around them, as they are all consistent/fast or powerful EXs.

I was wondering the viability of Hypno. Has it been good with all night party, Darkrai EX, and raticate (antibodies)? I definitely agree with the Kricketot Line because of the abundance of good pokemon that are weak to grass in the set!

Keep in mind that the cards you pull are limited, and that you normally can only use the cards you pull. Sure, Hypno is great with All Night Party, Darkrai-EX and Raticate... but the likelihood of pulling all of those in decent numbers is extremely slim. There are chances you won't pull any Hypno at all.

@bbninjas @quakingpunch73 at my pre there was a rule saying you could evolve (including mega and break) on any Pokemon of the same type but you couldn't go basic stage 2 it had to be basic stage 1 then stage 2

Yeah, I thought Hypno was uncommon, but after posting, I realized he was a rare. R.I.P. Hypno and Darkrai's All-Night Party

There's these twins that go to my league and they both pull darkrai ex and run it with pretty much all energy and any trainers they pulled including a full art skyla

Yeah, some prereleases will allow that, but most won't. I personally don't like the rule myself, as it stops creativity a bit.

The issue with a strategy like this is that it can be taken down somewhat easily if the opponent is smart. Building up a powerful Pokemon on the Bench and stuff like that.

It was funny when they went up against each other since they said who won the coin flip won the game and it's somewhat true

Yeah, The prerelease I'm going to will have normal evolutions, as well as there is a rule that will require you to run a minimum of like 7 pokemon to prevent games like the one gible06 described above!
