Ruling Bursting Balloon

Does bursting balloon activate if the damage to the defending pokémon amounts to zero after resistance is considered?

Player 1 attacked for 20 damage a Player 2's defending pokémon, equipped with a Bursting Balloon. Resistance for that particular type was -20, so damage was calculated as zero. Does the tool activate and damage the attacking pokémon?

Please post a picture of the card in question. The wording of the card is very important in this case!

Great, thanks!

Bursting Balloon's effect triggers if the Pokemon it is attached to is damaged by an attack. If damage is reduced to zero by Resistance, it is not damaged and Bursting Balloon would not trigger.

This has to do with the way damage is done - everything is calculated first, and then damage is applied. It's not like the Pokemon has to be "hit" in order for Resistance to kick in, even though that might make some sense intuitively. If you're ever calculating damage and you hit zero, you stop and are done :)

Thanks for the reply! That was the ruling I made in my local league, luckily it was the correct one. Matter of fact, it was a problem with the portuguese translation, as soon as I read the english one I posted here I knew there was no doubt about it. I'll do that next time before starting a thread, I swear ;)
