Can pack art influence sales?

This may seem a bit odd but I always wondered if pack art can influence sales. The reason is that most other games tend to have only one or two. Pokemon has four. Who knows the reason why. However, I don't think Pokemon on the pack are picked at random(it seems that way sometimes though :p). Could it have an influence on sales?

EX: Would you buy a pack with a Charizard on it or would you prefer one with Blastoise? Would more people buy a pack with more well known legendary like Mewtwo or Lugia? Would you prefer a pack with Reshiram or Zekrom?

That's what I've been wondering. What do you guys think?

Absolutely. There's a reason Pokemon Red sells for way more than Blue.

Seriously? I have Pokémon Red. (Not that I would ever sell it. :p)

Anyway, I don't ever buy loose packs of Pokémon cards. Only on a very rare occassion like if I found $20 on the ground or felt insanely lucky. If I do buy packs, I will *always* buy the one with my favorite artwork on it.

Whenever a set first comes out, I buy them at random. But if I get a couple rare cards out of packs with the same art, I tend to stick to those.

At least I think it does, whenever I used to collect the TCG I would always go for the packs that looked the nicest. The color the design, and even the Pokemon on the package always influenced my choice in which ones I would get.

Tornadus pack please. I think it does, if you go to a store, a little kid will always open/buy the pack that they like the most (ex. Darkrai from DE).

I can see how some people would be influenced by pack art, but new packs will not come in till all packs sold. So the net result is nil, unless you could order packs by art.

well i always buy random packs but i understand that people buy certain packs because of the art

For me, if I buy single packs, which I do, I try to equalize the pack art as much as possible. For Dark Explorers for example, if I see 3 Venusaur, 3 Scrafty, 3 Excadrill, and 1 Darkrai, then would try to get 2 more Dark Explorers packs with Darkrai on them.

Even though I don't like to admit it, I'm honestly far more likely to buy those of who I think deserve to be the set's mascots.

Eg. BW was ram/rom, DE is Darkrai/Scrafty, DE will be the actual dragons.

When the set first comes out, I try to get all 4 but if not, then I get the cool looking ones. It's usually the designs I do not like that give me the good cards though. So then I stick to those but eventually get betrayed by them. It's like back and forth for me until I simply give up and move on to the next set.

But yeah when I was younger it was Charizard, Scyther, Aerodactyl/Lapras, and TR Giovanni packs no question about it.

Like some peopple here I like to have an aqual number of each of the packs, but if a had to just choose one I would go with the one with the best art work.

I don't buy packs individually at all, but I do usually have a favourite art from the selections, and I might base which multi-pack blister to buy based on if my favourite pack is in it or not.

I remember kids used to flip a lid if they didn't get the same art on their packs that their brother or sister did. They thought they'd get the same cards, but they never did -and it never stopped them from bickering about.

NO

The cover art repeats by number of different cover arts. Great cards follow their own repeat schedule.

I don't think so. However, I do have a preference with which packs I buy depending on the art. When Arceus was out, I got the Water Arceus nearly every time. When Black and White was out, I got as many Zekrom packs as there were available.

I buy try to buy 4 packs, one for each artwork during that expansion and I actually save them in a tcg tin! :) Sorry that sounds weird but from an artist's view, I really appreciate the time pokemon artists put into their work just so I can look at it when I go to the store an immediately recognize it from other expansions. I also when gen 2 first came out I bought silver version instead of gold version because I love the color silver.

Me and my friend belive that the DE packs with Venusaur on the front yield better pulls, but I'm not entirely sure on that yet. (then again, I did get 1 single pack with Venusaur yesterday and pulled Minun, Random Reciever, Dark Claw and Tornadus EX)

Of the "good packs" that I got in my DE booster box (2 EXes, 1 FA, 1 Shiny), 2 of the 4 were Venusaurs.

Of course, that's just anecdata and it doesn't mean anything, but it's still kind of fun. :p
