I honestly don't know why people are talking about this card. Correct me if I'm wrong but doesnt it do the same thing as vileplume ud? Except gothitelle needs to be tthe active pokemon to use its ability where vileplume doesnt. Are items completely different from trainer cards? Is everything pre black and white being rotated out?

All cards that were known as "Trainer" cards in the pre-BW sets are now known as "Item" cards. They are both still the same thing. While Gothitelle needs to be Active, it prevents your opponent from playing Item cards, while you still can.
Also, the current format is HS-on, which means HS, Unleashed, Undaunted, Triumphant, Call of Legends, and BW.
