What i mean is can I use any Energy from before HGSS in my deck, in this current format ? or does it have to be strictly HGSS-on?

You can use any basic energy that was made at any time during the games existence. Special energies (rescue, double colorless etc) though are different types of energy and need to be within the modified-constructed format if you are playing in events that require it.
So, any basic energy from any set is fine to play with.
Special energies must be from within that current format.

To add. You may use any English basic energies and any special energies that are in the current format. You may use older special energies if they are in the current format. An example would be the double colorless energy from base set and base set two. Since it was reprinted in HGSS
