Card Set: Legends

I have always loved the Pokémon TCG, and I just recently got back in the game. Even though I haven't bought any cards since 2005, I always loved making spoiler cards. I was never skilled with programs like photoshop or gimp, but last night I thought I w[/code]ould give Paint a go and make a fake card for something I hope to one day be a full set.

I have already made the spoilers for most of the set, and I have searched through every card that has ever been printed in English to get ideas for good abilities, so many of the abilities are old Poké-powers or Poké-bodies altered to fit in today's format.

I also decided to use the "blank" energy from the DPt era, because I like what it brings to the game.

So here are my first attempts at two custom cards (EDIT: Vileplume and Spinarak added ):

Thanks to MeltyMole for the amazing artwork, and Metagross101 for the blanks and symbols.

Welcome to the Fan Fakes, Alli. :)

I think you did a very nice job with both cards. I'm surprised that you manage to get the cards completed by using Paint.

One thing that stood out to me was the text. It seems as though the text for the Stench ability description is slightly different than the ones on the official cards, and the font size for Gloom's Mega Drain description is a tad small compared to Oddish's attacks. Not a major problem, but just thought I would point it out.

Overall, you did a great job with the cards! Looking forward towards seeing more!

Thanks! I use two text sizes because of spacing, I noticed too late that I used a larger font on the Oddish card, and I have to almost make it from scratch again to change it because I am using paint, but I might get around to it after I've finished some more cards.

Is it the wording for the ability that is wrong, or is it the font?

Just finished Vileplume! The Ability is based on a previous Poké Power. I am still not certain about the wording of the ability, but I'll let it be for now.

I would also love ideas or suggestions for which none-legendary Pokémon that would suite a set focusing on legendaries. The next card will hopefully be a Virizion "reprint".

I was referring to the font.

Nice work on the Vileplume card. Suggestion: Hoppip line?

Great job using Paint, it has to be said. I would suggest using Gimp if for nothing else it is a lot more convenient and easier to use layers.

The only thing that's up with these cards that I can tell is a slight issue with spacing but everything else looks good! I'll suggest a Zubat line.

Hoppip line sound fun! I have just finished a new card. It is venom type which is based on the bug and poison types from the games. It will be joined by another new type later. Thanks to Metagross101 for blanks, energy and symbols and the amazing Heatherkat for the wonderful illustration!

EDIT: Added Ariados, with wonderful illustrations by Mark331! As always the blanks, energy and symbols are made by Metagross101.

I agree with Delta. You'd be better off using GIMP instead of Paint, though these are pretty nice for Paint fakes.

There are a few minor font and alignment issues. The effect text should be justified instead of flush left and the damage font should be the same as the HP value. Flavour text (Pokédex entry) should be Sanvito Pro (faux italic), but not all programs will let you do faux italic, in which case the font you used is a common replacement. The text in the evolution and specs bars also look off (I think they're supposed to be Frutiger, but I don't fake this era very often and, when I do, I don't tend to make evolution cards).

Some other errors I noticed...

Vileplume: The "t" in "trainer" should be capitalized in the Ability effect. Also, for the damage, use a multiplication sign (×) instead of x.

Spinarak: The "i" in "item" should be capitalized in the first attack's effect. In the second attack, "You're" should be "Your."
