Hey guys. So Yeah I'm super into Volcanion-EX and while I think it could be a fabulous deck on its own, I feel Charizard-EX benefits greatly from Volcanion-EX's Steam Up ability to reach the magical 180.

3 Volcanion (Power Heater)
3 Charizard-EX (Generations Promo)
2 Volcanion-EX
1 Hoopa-EX
2-2 Octillery (Abyssal Hand)
--- 10 Pokemon

8 Fire Energy
3 Double Colorless Energy
--- 11 Energy

3 Sycamore
3 N
2 Lysandre
1 Fisherman
1 Ninja Boy
1 Karen
4 VS Seeker
3 Battle Compressor
3 Ultra Ball
2 Dive Ball
2 Fighting Fury Belt
2 Assault Vest
2 Trainer's Mail
2 Prof's Letter
1 Escape Rope
1 Super Rod
3 Scorched Earth
--- 36 Tr/Su/St

Translations:

Volcanion – Fire – HP130
Basic Pokemon

[R] Power Heater: 20 damage. Choose 2 of your Benched Pokemon. Attach a Fire Energy from your discard pile to each of them.

[R][R][R] Explosive Flame: 100 damage.

Weakness: Water (x2)
Resistance: none
Retreat: 2

Volcanion-EX – Fire / Water – HP180
Basic Pokemon

Ability: Steam Up
Once during your turn (before your attack), you may discard 1 Fire Energy card from your hand. If you do, during this turn, the attacks of your Basic Fire Pokemon do 30 more damage to your opponent’s Active Pokemon.

[R}[R][C] Volcanic Heat: 130 damage. During your next turn, this Pokemon can’t attack.

When a Pokemon-EX has been Knocked Out, your opponent takes 2 Prize cards.

Weakness: Water (x2)
Resistance: none
Retreat: 3

Ninja Boy – Trainer
Supporter

Search your deck for a Basic Pokemon and switch it with 1 of your Basic Pokemon in play. (Any cards attached to that Pokemon, damage counters, Special Conditions, and effects on it are now on the new Pokemon.) Shuffle the first Basic Pokemon into your deck.

You may play only 1 Supporter card per turn (before your attack).

Karen – Trainer
Supporter

Each player shuffles all Pokemon in his or her discard pile into his or her deck.

You may play only 1 Supporter card during your turn (before your attack).

Strategy: The basic strategy is to start with mini Volcanion in the Active spot, put energy into the discard pile by various means, setting up your Bench (a Charizard-EX and/or Volcanion-EX is ideal), then using Volcanion to accelerate Energy to your Bench from the discard pile until your Pokemon are set to go, while also dealing early game damage with Power Heater. Charizard-EX is the main attacker of the deck (for the most part), as with Volcanion's help (EX or otherwise), he can KO the opponent's Pokemon fairly easily. The Volcanions are no slouches either as they can deal a good amount of damage as well. Dive Ball is a secondary means to obtain a Volcanion-EX, as well as Octillery which is part of the deck's draw power aside from Scorched Earth, which is really only for early game draw and countering other Stadiums. A 1-0ff Hoopa-EX with Ninja Boy could help with filling your Bench, getting another attacker out, and keeping Bench sitters to a minimum.

I feel this could be a fearsome deck. Even if Blacksmith goes, Fire still has reliable support in Volcanion. And even in support normally for Water types. I think it's fair to say Fire decks haven't run out of Steam just yet. hardy har-har... ... I'll leave...

Questions? Comments? Suggestions?

Your deck list seems good but there is a major flaw: retreat. Baby Volcanion requires 2 energies to retreat, Volc EX requires 3, Octilery 2, Hoopa 2. Lysandre stall is a major treat and you included just a single card to retreat your mons. So I would remove 2 Assault Vests and add 2 Float stones. Without mentioning that you would have to burn an extra energy in order to retreat your Baby Volcanion. In comparison to other decks, Baby Yveltal has Zoroark and Baby Xerneas has Fairy Garden for the retreat shenanigans.

I am also not quite sure about Karen in your list. The biggest treat to your deck is definitely Greninja because of Lysandre stall + weakness. So I would replace Karen for either Pokemon Ranger (remove ability lock from Greninja's attack) or Hex Maniac.

Just my opinion though :)

Yeah I thought about that. It's my fault cuz I'm used to playing tanky decks :p I did think about trying Olympia in the event of item lock. I also have Ninja Boy as pseudo-Switch in that regard but I see your point and it's fair one. I'll definitely have to tool around with this deck when Steam Siege comes out.
