Cilan's Purpose in the Anime?

Is Cilan suppose to replace brock. They are both gym leaders, cooks, and some-what pokemon breeders.

Considering that Brock left the main cast, yeah, Cilan is supposed to be Brock's replacement.
A pretty good replacement at that.

Yeah, pretty much. Cilan, however, cannot replace the cherished and delicate flavor of Brock's sweet yet sour behavior; a dish that is very hard to follow up.

I dont really care for Cilan that much, he could never replace Brock, i mean he does have some neat sayings, but some get really stupid and unnessary, but hes still ok in my book, but Brocks A-ok lol
