Section 1: A quick note before I start:
This is my FIRST tournament report, so please don't be too surprised if it really sucks. And now, without further ado, let's begin.
Section 2: The night before the tournament:
The night before the tournament I was basically just tweaking my list and playtesting as I went. I was talking to my friend (Afro-G) on the phone the whole time and I was having a swell time. When I went to bed, this was the list I had:
Pokemon: 20
x2 Garchomp C
x2 Garchomp C lv.X
x2 Blaziken FB
x2 Blaziken FB lv.X
x2 Crobat G
x1 Dragonite FB
x1 Bronzong G
x1 Toxicroak G (Promo)
x2 Uxie (LA)
x1 Uxie lv.X
x1 Smeargle (UD)
x1 Unown Q (MD)
x1 Mewtwo (MD)
x1 Mewtwo lv.X
T/S/ST: 28
x4 Cyrus's Conspiracy
x4 Poke Turn
x4 Power Spray
x4 Energy Gain
x3 SP Radar
x3 Pokemon Collector
x2 Aaron's Collection
x1 Bebe's Search
x2 Energy Exchanger
x1 Luxury Ball
Energy: 12
x4 Double Colorless Energy
x4 Fire Energy
x2 Psychic Energy
x2 Warp Energy
Section 3: The Tournament:
So I get to the tournament and there's 19 people, 5 rounds and top 4 in the senior division (my division).
Round 1 VS Dimitri with some random deck with a Tyranitar Prime:
I'm a little fuzzy on the details of this match but basically I swept him with a combination of Blaziken and Garchomp. The only annoying Pokemon was a belted T-Tar Prime. I do remember one point where I used Power Claw's effect to my advantage by using Jet Shoot when he could only use Power Claw which isn't affected by effects on the defending Pokemon. I was waiting for him to knock something out so I could KO him with Promocroak, but it never happened. GG
1-0
Round 2 VS Colin with Dusknoir Gengar Vileplume:
I can't remember what I started with, but I remember he started with a Duskull and a..... Oddish? I'm not sure. Anyway, on his first turn, He got a Spiritomb out and started setting up with Darkness Grace. As soon as he got a Vileplume out I Luring Flamed it and KOed it the following turn with Jet Shoot. The next turn he played down another Oddish in an attempt to get out another Vileplume but I Dragon Rushed it immediately. At this point it all just started to fall apart for him. He got out a Dusknoir and started using Night Spin, but I just worked around it and eventually took my last 3 prizes off of 3 straight Dragon Rushes on 3 pixies. GG
2-0
Round 3 VS Aylem with Speed G-Dos:
I knew this match was gonna be a tough one, but I couldn't possibly have been prepared for what happened. Basically, on his first trainer turn he used a ridiculous amount of trainers such as Pokedex, Pokedrawer +, Junk arm, Duel Ball, etc along with some Uxies to get a T1 G-dos OHKOing all my Pokemon. And as if that wasn't bad enough, every time I damaged his G-dos he would Warp Energy to the bench, use a Seeker to pick it up and play it back down to heal it, then free retreat the Pokemon he had brought up. I couldn't do anything. GG
2-1
Round 4 VS Kiko with Luxchomp:
Before the game Kiko tells me that in the previous round he lost because he started with a Crobat and 6 trainers and got Poltergeisted turn 2. I draw my hand and have to stifle a laugh. I got a Crobat and 6 Trainers/Supporters. LOL. Anyway, he opens Smeargle and I go first. I can't do anything so I pass. At this point I'm really worried that I'm gonna get donked, especially when he uses a Pokemon Collector and an SP Radar and he still hasn't used Portrait (I have a Collector). He gets out Luxray, Garchomp, etc and then does something really surprising; He attaches a Call Energy to Smeargle and calls for a couple Pokemon WITHOUT USING PORTRAIT. He says he has a reason for not using it, but I still don't think it makes any sense. On my turn I use the Collector to start getting set up. I also get my Mewtwo because I have the lv.X in my hand already. On my next turn I get my Mewtwo X out and as soon as it's charged up I Giga Burn his Garchomp X that he used to Dragon Rush my Garchomp on his previous turn. On my next turn I Poke Turn the 2 SP Pokemon I have on my bench leaving just Mewtwo X active and my Smeargle on the bench, and then get my Psychic Energys back with Energy Absorbtion. He Dragon Rushes my Smeargle and I Giga Burn his Garchomp X. At this point I'm starting to think he doesn't play a Mewtwo X counter, but then he uses a Bebe's Search for a Drifloon and attaches an energy to it. He also attaches an Expert Belt to his Luxray with an energy attached and passes. On my next turn I play down a few SP Pokemon (Enough to use Power Spray), attach an energy to Garchomp and Use Energy Absorbtion. On his turn he evolves Drifloon, attaches to Luxray, retreats to Luxray, levels up, and uses Bright Look, which I spray. He then attempts to use Galactic Switch, but I spray that as well. Now he's in trouble, and he simply ends his turn. It's my turn now and I drop a Crobat in an attempt to KO his belted Luxray X with Giga burn. He sprays, but I use a Poke turn to pick it up and Flash Bite him again. He's out of sprays, so I Flash Bite Luxray X and KO it with Giga Burn. He uses Take Away on my Mewtwo X, and I respond by Dragon Rushing his benched Luxray. He has nothing, and I Dragon Rush for the last prize. GG
3-1
Round 5 VS Mark with Dusknoir Vileplume Gengar:
He opened with double Spiritomb and used a T1 Call Energy to get two Duskulls. I can't remember what I started with but once he got a Vileplume out I Luring flamed it. Unfortunately he attached a Rescue Energy to Vileplume and so I spent the next few turns trying to knock it out in between turns. Unfortunately he kept getting heads for the burn damage and eventually attached an Unown Q and retreated. He started attacking with Dusknoir but on my turn I Luring Flamed Vileplume again and knocked it out the turn after that with Vapor Kick (the Rescue Energy was gone because he used it to retreat). Now I could use trainers, so I was able to take the rest of my prizes without too much trouble. GG
4-1
At the end of swiss I'm #3 so I'm in Top Cut.
T4 VS Aylem with Speed G-Dos:
Game 1:
Game 1 was nothing special. It was pretty much exactly like when I played Aylem in swiss. GG
0-1
Game 2:
In game 2 my starting hand consisted of a Garchomp, a Promocroak, a Smeargle, a DCE and some other stuff. I see that he only has 1 basic, so I start with Garchomp, choose to go first, and pray he has a Magikarp or an Unown Q. We start and he flips over a.... Magikarp. GG
1-1
Game 3:
Game 3 was the same as game 1 accept he played down his Regice so I was able to Luring Flame it a couple times. Unfortunately the first time he used a Warp Energy to get to the bench and the second time he played a HUGE amount of trainers along with an Uxie or two and eventually got another Warp Energy. He then used a Seeker to pick up Regice and that was the end of it. GG
1-2
Section 4: Pros and Cons:
Pros:
I made Top Cut.
I beat two Vileplume-based decks.
I pulled an Alph Lithograph and traded it for a Gengar SF and a Lucario GL.
I had fun hanging out with my friends after I got eliminated.
Cons:
Speed G-Dos. Nuff said.
Afro-G went 2-3.
I tweaked my list to be good at beating SP and then I only faced 1 SP deck.
Section 4: Correcting myself:
This is actually section 5.
Section 6: I can't think of a good name for this section:
This is the end of the tournament report, thanks for taking the time to read it and I hope you enjoyed it. Peace.
