Sixth Generation announcement! Get hyped!

Note that this is intended strictly for competitive play only (use of Wifi and/or battle simulators). Casual discussion should go in the X and Y forum. Also no one liners.

What are some things you want to see in the 6th Gen competitive metagame? Are there certain type combinations? Any specific niches you want?

When thinking about the BW/BW2 metagame, what are some things you enjoyed? What about some things you didn't enjoy? Did you have any regrets?

Do you think the CG graphics and use of 3D will effect the usage of battle simulators?

Feel free to answer these questions, and provide any more that you may have.

What I always wanted was some Grass-Fire Pokemon. They would be good additions to Drought teams, and they would eliminate Grass's weakness to Fire, Bug and Ice. It could change the way people battle.

What I definitely enjoyed was the Triple Battles and generally the focus on battling with multiple Pokemon. I never enjoyed Singles much, so Gen V provided me with a lot of material for the battle styles I preferred. What I didn't enjoy was the weather monopoly. Sure, it was fun building my own weather team and all, but knowing beforehand that half the teams you would face would use weather as well was annoying. Also, it limited your choices in Pokemon and strategies, due to weather outperforming older strategies (such as Justified or Tailwind).

Do you think the CG graphics and use of 3D will effect the usage of battle simulators?
Generally, no. As long as the way of battling remains the same, the environment doesn't play a role. If, however, we begin controlling Pokemon around the screen with the stylus (e.g. move a Pokemon to avoid an attack) then yes, simulators would have to change.

I'm not getting my hopes up for cool type combinations. But as for niche Pokemon, I think seeing more defensive and bulkier Pokemon would be something to contrast to B/W. With all of these absolute powerhouses from 5th gen (in almost every tier), seeing some more defensive Pokemon with typing/stats on par with Ferrothorn or Blissey would be pretty interesting, especially in competitive battling.

Regrets? I regret that 90% of the teams I made this gen were focused around either Rain or Sand. In all honesty, I enjoyed the 5th gen meta to an extent, since battles were usually very fast-paced and I saw a wide variety of Pokemon used with only a few types of viable teams to choose from.

Unless we see a huge increase of quality in battle simulators, there could possibly be some large fan sprite project so competitive battling simulators like PO or PS can continue to flourish. There are a lot of options out there.

A Ghost-Steel type.

All of my want. Doesn't even have to have Levitate.

Hopefully it would be defensive, to take advantage of its typing.

I think the 3D Graphics (which I love so far) could definitely have an impact on simulators, but whether or not it will be negative or positive I am not sure.

I'd like:

More Spinners. Our options really suck for spinners right now. You either run Starmie for offense, or you don't run Starmie an lose all offensive presence. Not to mention that Starmie is pretty much the only good one (Tenta relies on rain to have any offensive presence, Forry and Donphan have next to none)

More Spinblockers. We really only have two good ones right now (Jellicent and Gengar), and both of them fall face first against Starmie. Spammy's idea for a Ghost/Steel type would work really well here if it had some special bulk. Even if its just a specially defensive ghost type, that's cool with me. I need more options.

A smaller metagame. This is a little tricky, so let me explain what I mean here. We're getting to the point where OU teams have around 80 threats to prepare for, and a 53 Pokemon OU tier. We have too many Pokemon for a stable metagame at this point. It's getting to the place where our teams can't physical have an answer for everything, because there's too many Pokemon to build a team for. If we went back to a set-up like RS's 200 (where the only Pokemon you could use were the Pokemon found in Hoenn), our metagame would be a much safer place to play in. We'd have less threats to beat. Stall really benefits from this change because it's easier for it to have an answer to a smaller group of Pokemon.

I regret:

Never fully experiencing sand and sun. If you guys know me at all, you know I build rain team after rain team after rain team, and while I like these teams, I wouldn't have mind a lot of diversity in the teams I make.

I enjoyed:

Using SubSalac Terrakion in BW2. It's an amazing set that needs more use. On a good day, you can't even lose to Scizor and Breloom because they die trying to break your sub.

Climbing up the ladder for Keldeo testing. I didn't make it, but I had a lot of fun trying out some new team styles. It makes me want to get more involved with 6th gen testing.

I agree, our choice of viable spinners is lame.

One of the reasons I despise this metagame is that we have more choices than every before, but so much less is really viable, and you still have to try and prepare for more threats than you ever had to. One of the reasons rain teams flourished, I think, is because of their brute strength; it's one of the few ways to have success in this metagame Gen 6 (depending on the amount of Pokemon) should have it's own metagame, where only Gen 6 mons are allowed (similar to ADV).
