Ruling confused

My friend and I were having a battle and she put me confused and she said that if I was confused I can't retreat and I said that you can retreat. I know that you can but she won't beleave me.

It used to be (years and years ago) that you had to flip to retreat in Confusion. Now you just retreat normally in Confusion.

I thought you couldn't retreat in confusion. I have been playing wrong for a while then I guess.

You can retreat in confusion, it's legal. Just call the judge if it happens again.

Alrightly, guess that confusion has been around.

Just in case this is also useful: Confusion nowadays deals 30 to self, whereas it was 20 in the old days.

^Confusion nowadays places 3 damage counters, not 30 damage, on the confused pokemon. That makes a difference as it isn't affected by weakness or resistance nowadays (b/c it's counters). It used to be 20 damage that had weakness and resistance apply for the damage. (not trying to be completely picky but it could confuse someone...)

Just say that the rulebook agrees with you. Show it to her if she still doubts the retreating thing.
