$$ CONSUMING $$

Personaly, I think that TCG is kinda money consumiung instead of fun...
Yes is true that spending money is to buy cards to have the fun and trading it with other player. But somehoe when the cards is given a price (example, Leafeon LV.X costs ---- amount), it makes the game kinda like money consuming.

Further more, some nice cards are kinda hard to get or trade. In order to get a card, one might need to spend a lot to buy boosters or boxes to get the particular card.

Or else, one might need to spend a huge amount of money to buy the card from other player or seller.

The worst is that some cards will be rotated out for every new season. So, you buy some cards and use it for a period of time, then keep it in your file(or wherever you keep it).

Is it money consuming or waste of cash?

I'm not complaining, but it just came into my mind.

Perhaps one might play TCG for fun and not for win, yet win is the fianl aim. So, it also makes people to spend in order to get better cards to win.

As stated before, good cards are rare and it is expensive. Unless you're lucky in enough, otherwise money is one of the biggest element in TCG.

Is it TCG is a game for rich people? I wonder...

well yeah buying pack after pack is a waste of cash but you can buy single cards you know and most of them dont cost that much

you start off small, like i did....

buy a starter deck - thats why there there, then buy boosters - like 1 a week or something like i did

That's what I did too.
But what's the probability to get a card you want in a booster? Probably very small...

This is one of the major flaws of card games. No matter how awesome of an idea you have, if you don't have the cards, you can't make that deck.

HOWEVER

The one connection you make that I challenge is that good cards are expensive. I disagree... To some extent. Yeah, a lot of good cards are expensive, but not all are. If you're worried about cash, make cheap decks (some of which are T2). T2 Kricketune, Toxicroak/Weezing, Ariados/Bronzong IFDS... Y'Know, stuff like that. All those decks are good. Not every deck has to have 2 Leafeon Lv X in it... Cheap Decks ftw.

I just loaned cards from people, till i started winning my cards.

I haven't bought a boosterpack in a store for about a year now...

If you want to win loads of tournaments you are going to have to buy the best cards. Unfortunately, these cards can cost a fair bit. There are some reasonably cheap decks going around though. T2 decks tend to not cost too much.

Compared to other things, Pokemon is pretty cheap. A top-tier Pokemon deck costs a few hundred dollars at most. If you want to win major tournaments in Magic the Gathering you are going to be looking into the thousands.

If you are truely playing to have fun, keep a simple yet constructive deck (such as listed above) for modified needs (such as BR's, Cities, States, ect.), and just make decks using your older cards for league play. You can still get the same ammount of fun using older cards as you do using newer cards.

Your time making that post consumes money too. Almost everything consumes money. There's no real way around it. In terms of hobbies, there are far more expensive things out there.

or you can make do with what you have
i havent bought cards in over a month - i only do trades cuz i think buying individual cards is a cheap way to get what you want
it takes all the fun out of it!

I was thinking about the same thing...everyone tells me that I'm wasting my money buying cards, but it's something that I enjoy! And everything costs money these days..I think that if you're having fun then it's not a waste of money

Burrow Cards, Steal Cards *no, don't do it*, or the easiest way: Become a judge at 18, ask your TO if you can help run events, such as prereleases, and get packs doing that.

Hey, not that I'm unsatisfied with TCG...
TCG is on of the best thing in my life...
Although people around me are saying that I'm wasting my time & money in TCG, yet I'll never ever let it go...

I feel like wanna share with other players and know what's in their thoughts.

it's been months since i've gotten a booster... My parents think i'm buying too much... I'm new to Pokemon TCG and 2007-2008, I took out over $150 in cards. YIKES! But I am selling some cards single, since selling single, you make more money... But I'm just glad that...

IM GOOING TO GRINDERS!
IM A-GOIN TO GRINDER!
IM GOING TO GRINDERS!

And to a LA prerelease in the Worlds

Me too...
My friend introduced me pokemon, and I started my TCG journey with bunch of friend and now I'm all alone...

It is hard to find a pal in TCG in my area...

Be glad you don't play Yugioh. Shelling out 400 bucks for a playset of 3 cards isn't something I'd enjoy.

you got that right man, I played yugioh for 6 years and spend way over $2000 (literally) overthe course of that.

At least pokemon doesn't charge money to get into tournaments. And after this year it will be really easy to make a good deck with cheap cards because there won't be anymore plox or G&G.

In yugioh you have to spend like $500 to make a good deck, and then have of those cards get banned forcing you to buy more cards, that is way more money consuming then pokemon

i dont exactly understand what im saying here....

but

i rather being paid on wednesday and buying a tin or whatever and ripping into it than having lots of money and buying a million packs to get everything you want at once.... it give you something to look forward to each week....

if that has anything to do with the discussion ;P
