so after seeing the new rotation for the 2017 standard format, and after seeing how good fighting/vileplume did at one of the nationals( forget which one), i decided to try making my own vileplume varient, using one of my personal faveorite pokemon, absol ex/m absol ex

The fighting/item lock deck was Zygarde/Carbink BREAK/Vileplume

Only problem with Absol is you're ending your turn just to evolve one.

I think you should look at the Fighting/Vileplume that Day 2'd US Nationals, it has a very specific strategy which is to run basically all supporters and few items and get a T1 item lock. It uses a FFBelted Zygarde to attack, and then AZ the Zygarde before its knocked out. Then move Carbink BREAK up, put Zygarde back down, reattached energy with Diamond Gift attack and repeat. You deny prizes while wearing the opponent down while they top deck.

Your deck doesn't have the diverse attackers necessary to make this strategy work. The fighting deck also used a basic Zygarde non-EX for getting around Regice/Carbink BREAK, has energy acceleration under item lock and AZ for switching/healing. Also note Fighting/Vileplume will die after rotation because its heavily reliant on the 4 AZ. Zygarde is the perfect attacker because his attacks scale up in energy cost, he can heal himself with the 2nd attack and strong energy boosts his output. Absol EX has none of those things.

so it took some time, but i think i managed to figure out a better build, using what you said to my advantage. the new build is as follows:

2 Shaymin-EX ROS 77
3 Absol-EX PR-XY XY62
3 M Absol-EX PR-XY XY63
2 Yveltal XY 78
1 Yveltal-EX XY 79
2 Oddish AOR 1
2 Gloom AOR 2
2 Vileplume AOR 3
1 Jirachi PR-XY XY67

2 Super Rod DRV 20
2 Hex Maniac AOR 75
2 Revitalizer GEN 70
2 Lysandre AOR 78
2 Pokémon Center Lady FLF 93
4 Forest of Giant Plants AOR 74
2 Steven ROS 90
3 Level Ball AOR 76
1 Brigette BKT 161
3 N NVI 101
2 Float Stone BKT 137
2 Ultra Ball ROS 93
3 Professor Sycamore XY 122
2 Delinquent BKP 98

10 Darkness Energy Energy 7

Problem with the fighting deck that was recommended is that he is looking at 2017 rotation, where there is so far no AZ or equivalent to pick up Zygarde. Absol not having a spirit link is a HUGE setback though.

and its for this reason that i included the pokemon center ladys. i also feel feel that 2017 will be a much slower format then the one currently, so losing a turn to evolve absol wont hurt as much as it does now, and its also why i,m running the stevens, as it gets me my next supporter while under item lock

Okay how consistent is T1 Vileplume. If it is under 50% reconsider your engine. If seems like it doesn't happen all too much. Vileplume is the most effective five on T1. I would run more draw and search support.

sadly i haven't been able to truly test it yet, as i don't have all the cards yet (both IRL and online), so atm its simply theorycrafting

If you're trying to consistently achieve a T1 lock I think you're going to need to run either Trainers' Mail or Acro Bike... but honestly you might need both to reach for all the cards you'd need in one turn. I'm thinking 3+ of each and if you do you might also be able to squeeze in a some Spirit Links before you item lock the game. The Zygarde deck was able to reach for float stones(Vileplume) and Fighting Fury Belt(Zygarde) before initiating the lock.

And if you're trying to test the deck online I would suggest TCGone.net The site lets you create a deck using any of the cards in the chosen format and battle others online.

There is no spirit link for Absol unfortunately

Losing 1 attack to set up Absol isn't exactly great, but I'll give it to you that it's not all that likely to devestate a match. Losing 3 attacks to set up 3 different Absol potentially could be devastating though. Since as you said we're just theorycrafting right now thats where I see you getting stuck.

1 turn, not the end of the world, 2 hurts pretty bad because lets be honest if you need the 2nd one then things arent going great, and 3rd time you probably wont happen because if you need it then that means you've already given 4 prizes, or possibly 2 with a big Lysandre target covered in damage counters on the bench.

Basicly I think because you don't have the spirit link that it'll be too costly to set up your backups, i think if whatever you're playing against gets past the first one then they have a massive advantage. If you can keep the first one up though and keep control then you'll be just fine, just seems like a big if. I like where this deck is headed, but until it can really be tested it seems like if you get behind at all there aren't many options for recovery.

Edit: just noticed the second list that includes the Yveltal, that could drastically change the come from behind thing since you're a little less reliant on getting more Absol out, so take the previous statements for what you will. Look forward to seeing how it does in some real tests.
