How long does it's endless darkness attack last?

Meaning, I use his attack. It says "in between turns." but does that mean I have to keep Darkrai as my active pokemon? Or would the effect still go on if I put Darkrai on my bench?

It's in effect until one: they wake up, two: they get two tails, three: You or your opponent forces a retreat, four: it's knock out, or five: Super Scoop Up is used and succeeds.

It stays in affect as long as the pokemon is still asleep.
