Delcatty ex - Colorless – HP90
Stage 1

Poke-Power: Limitation
You can use this power once during your turn. Each player discards cards from his or her hand until they only have 6 cards left. (You discard first). You can’t use this power if Delcatty ex is affected by a Special Condition.

[C] Upstream: Does 10 damage times the number of Energy Cards in your discard pile. Then, remove all Energy Cards from your discard pile, show them to your opponent, and shuffle them back into your deck.
[C][C][C] Tail Slap: 60 damage.

RE: Next review: Delcatty ex

Delcatty EX is our COTD this week.

One of my favourite cards in EX Crystal Guardians.

As Always, I will look and review its basic pokemon.

Skitty.

There are 2 Skittys that can be used in the current format, The one from LM, or the one from CG.

The LM one and the CG one both have a solid hp which is 50.
The LM Skitty is most usable in a deck that plays React energy because it can find one with one energy. Even though it doesn't have a good 1st attack, but it has a decent 2nd attack which cost 2(C) energies. Dealing 10 damage, or at the most 30 damage depending on coin flips.

Now lets look at the CG one. It can attack 10 damage for 1 (C) energy, this attack does pretty low damage. Having 2 (C) energies attached to skitty allows it to attack ANY pokemon with a decent 20 damage. Not bad of a sniper.

Lets get back to

Delcatty EX.

90hp is VERY,VERY low, especially being an EX.. It won't be good even if it can escape desert ruins, but it will be rotated when CG comes.

Having NO RETREAT COST is just great!!! But having a fighting weakness hurts a lot, especially with armaldo EX, Machamp and Golem around.

It has a poke-power called Limitation, which allows you to discard cards from your hand until you have 6 of them, but there's a twist, your opponent does the same as well. Discarding cards from a large hand will be fun to see. This poke-power combos with something(look below)

It can do REALLY GREAT damage for only ONE ENERGY, upstream, which allows you to deal the same amount of damage to the amount of energies in your discard pile. Not only that but it also allows you to PLACE THEM back into your DECK! This attack REALLY combos with its poke-power. The last pokemon that can use this effect was Feraligatr(Neo gen).

The second attack is a Solid attack which can do 60 for two energies, not suprising???? But this helps as you don't have to use upstream all the time.

Combos other than its attack, Hmm,

Combos

So far, I've heard of Gyarados *.
But to me, it's a risky combo.

To me, I think it should be put in a deck with Metagross d. Metagross d discards energies, and when there are enough energies in the discard pile simply swap Metagross d with delcatty EX for the finale. It would be called " Meta-Catty".

Banette EX will be next in line. Discarding large amounts of supporters, along with scott. You'll might be able to deal around 50-80 damage in T2.

Overall 8.2/10

Having low attack cost that can deal high damage, awesome, having low hp, bad.... Low retreat cost  makes up for the low hp, anyways.

That's it for Delcatty EX, hope you like my review on this card. I wonder what the next COTD is??

RE: Next review: Delcatty ex

Today we shall review a card from future set, Delcatty ex. Since Delcatty ex is from Crystal Guardian set, so I will talk about it in EM-on format. First we shall look at its general status; it has 90 Hp which is considered as very low since Desert ruins is no longer legal in the new format. Weakness to fighting and resistance to none is normal while zero retreat cost is great. Next, Delcatty ex has 2 attacks. Tail slap does 60 damages for three energies is pretty standard. Furthermore, you can use boost energy to do 60 damages in turn one. On the other hand, its upstream attack sounds interesting to me. Upstream said does 10 damage times the number of energy cards in your discard pile. Does it sound familiar? Yes, it is like Feraligatr from neo genesis. In addition, its poke-power, limitation, helps to increase the damages. Limitation stated that each player discards cards from his hand until 6 cards left. Thus, you can discard energies from your hand as long as your hand exceeds 6 cards. In other words, you need cards that can increase your hand. Well, some cards popped out from my mind, they are holon trainers, of course. Holon trainers such as holon adventurer and holon scientist allow you to draw more cards from your deck. Additionally, before you can play a holon supporter, you need to discard a card, so you may discard energy card to meet the requirement and increase Delcatty ex up stream’s damage at the same time. Other than that, Porygon 2 from ds and holon lass work with Delcatty ex, too. Porygon 2’s backup poke-power allows you to draw until your hand has 6 cards, so you will have extra cards to discard after you play holon adventurer or prof. Cozmo’s discovery. Yet, these trainers still cannot help Delcatty ex to deal a decent damage, except Holon lass. The key is try to make your deck contains more energies in early turn (by adding more energies in your deck or non supporter trainer cards, etc.) so that you will have more chances to draw energy when you play holon lass. Imagine that you draw 10 energies out of 12 cards through holon lass, Delcatty ex can deal 100 damages! Wow!!!

Currently, combo that can go with Delcatty ex is Porygon 2 ds. Other than that, pokemon that discards energies to perform an attack goes well with Delcatty, too. For an example, Raichu d HP can go with Delcatty ex. Raichu d’s second attack, metallic thunder does 90 damages if you discard two metal energies. Thus, after Raichu d attacks for few turns, you switch to Delcatty ex to recycle all energies back into the deck AND deal an amount of damages at the same time. Finally, I personally do not think that there is any good card that can really works with Delcatty ex, perhaps there will be more cards from Miracle Guardian.

As I said just now, Delcatty ex is still not powerful in recent metagame unless the release of Miracle Guardian since we do not know much about that set. Furthermore, Battle frontier blocks limitation, which I think Battle frontier will be a popular and powerful card in the EM-on format. Other than that, I do not think it can attack for another huge damage after all the energies are shuffled back into deck.

In conclusion, there is no card is current set that can really works with Delcatty ex now. Moreover, I think it is a good tech to shuffle special energies back into deck, but not as a main attacker. I will give this card a rating of 5 out of 10. See you next time. Cheers.

RE: Next review: Delcatty ex

Well, what's there to say:
THE CARD
90HP: that's very low for a stage 1. This means that if it's not played right, you give your opponent 2 free prizes.
type colourless: can be useful against dragon, but nothing special. One good thing is that this gives it the opportunity to play it in every deck.
his Poké-power: nice, it will be useful in disturbing decks, but also in Banette ex deck (yeah, 2 90HP exes) and other vengeance decks.
attacks1:Yay, a new riptide, I really missed that attack. Getting all your energies back and doing serious damage makes up for his lack of HP, this means that I can see many decks based on this card.
attacks2: Well, 60, what's there to say, when you used his first attack and killed his main attacker, then you can kill his basics with this attack, but if your opponent has another strong attacker ...
W, R and RC: Weakness for F isn't this big a deal, and his 0 retreat cost makes up for it.
overall: a good balanced card, which will be played numerous times and can become part of a mayor archetype. It will be one of the promosing cards in CG, and will be a big thing on the prerelease. He has a Powe-power and an attack which are close to broken, combined on 1 colourless card makes it very dangerous, to bad that his HP makes it an easy target. I think that PCL gave it 90HP to keep it from being broken, but it's not really enough, it takes out almost every deck which can't do more then 80 damage.

COMBO- With Gyarados* δ: of course, discard all your energies with his attack, get them back with catty's attack, simple, but powerful.
- With Marowak fr-lg, bannette ex, unown V, slowking, ...: simple, just discard cards from your hand to get tools/Pokémon in your discard pile. and do a serious amount of damage
- in disturbing decks with cards like houndoom: keep your opponent from playing cards from his or her hand, and letting him discard them.
- with crawdaunt ex: may not be obvious but if you can get your opponent's benched stage 2 with 4 energies back into his or her hand he or she has to discard one of those card, or the rest of his hand, but I doubt this will be used.
- with tyranitar ex: just like gyarados but less dangerous
- with holon lass: get those energies back into your hand, attach them to an energy-discarding Pokémon, once you're out of energies, ... UPSTREAM

that's all I can think of, the card seems good, but i would rather have a review on those fun new HP cards.

RE: Next review: Delcatty ex

Okay, time for the next review.

Delcatty ex

The Card

Delcatty ex is a very interesting card. It has 90 HP which is a little low for this card but at least it won't be affected by Desert Ruins. It's Poke Power is nice because it cuts down your opponents hand size and it could make them discard something they really needed. It's first attack could become broken. The attack is the same as the old Neo Genesis Feraligatr and I'm sure we all remember how brutal that card was. The second attack does 60 damage for 3 energies which is normal. Delcatty has no resistance and it does have weakness to fighting which hurts pretty bad however it does have free retreat cost.

Combos

Really the only combo I can see it being used with as of right now is the d Shining Gyrados that cute-mew was talking about.

Comments

Delcatty ex will be used in many decks especially after Worlds when the sets get rotated out considering you won't be able to play it until after Worlds anyway.

RE: Next review: Delcatty ex

Okay it’s time for out next COTW review.  Today’s is Delcatty ex from EX Crystal Guardians.

The Card:
The card is very, very good because it combos with a lot of things.  It’s Pokepower, Limitation, allows you and your opponent to discard cards from your hands until you have only six cards left in your hand.  This can be useful with its first attack.  Its first attack is called Upstream, and it’s very good.  It does 10 damage for each Energy card in your discard pile, then shuffles back all of your energy cards into your deck, for only 1 Colorless energy!  Its second attack, Tail Slap, does a solid 60 for three Colorless energies.  That’s a little too much energy for my liking, though.
It’s Weakness is a very popular one, being Fighting, and it is very vulnerable to being KO’d by decks such as Machamp LM, T2 Medicham, Powdacham, Queendom, and a whole bunch of other decks.  So it is a card that is not built to last.  It has neither a Resistance nor a Retreat Cost, which is nice because it allows you to get away from those mean Fighting Pokemon, because it only has 90 HP.

Decks and Strategies:
There are only a couple of deck ideas I can make for this card.  One is Gyarados*.  With Gyarados’ All-Out-Blast attack, it can rip through any of your opponent’s pokemon, then you retreat and use Delcatty to blast another Pokemon, and get all of your energies back into your deck so you can All-Out-Blast again.  The down side of this is that it takes a little while.  That’s why I would include Fossils to stall, just around 4 so you have enough time to get set up.
Another deck I would put it in is with Metagross delta, because Metagross can Crush and Burn and then Delcatty will get them back.  Electrode ex would be another idea, with the same idea.

Analogy:
There are not many things that you can do to make this card better.  The weakness is a given, so not much to do about there.  The HP I would boost up to 100, just because it seems a little bit less for an EX Pokemon.  I would also boost up the damage that Tail Whap can do, to around 70 or 80.

Overview:
Delcatty ex is definitely going to see a lot of play when it is released, and I give it a solid 8/10.

Until next time, cheers!

RE: Next review: Delcatty ex

Card Analysis
Delcatty EX has 90 hp, this is an all time low for a stage 1 card. It also has 0 retreat which is always good. A resistance of nothing is not good but at least it doesnt hurt the card overall. Weakness to Fighting is pretty bad nowadays.
Now onto the Poke-power: Alone this Pokepower is a piece of garbage, but  combined with other cards it can be very good*i will go into detail later*

The Attacks
Upstream: Can be comboed with delcatty's Poke-power. The attack is very cheap. But i think it needs to  much prep to be used as a main attack, maybe as a last resort.
Tail Slap:3 energy for 50 is pretty good. I think this attack will only be used if you're opponent is weak to colorless or if delcatty gets reversal'd out into the active position.

Combo's
Delcatty EX/Bannette EX- Use Delcatty's Pokepower Limitation to discard Supporters and use TV Reporter to discard more supporters.Uses Holon engine to get back all the holon supporters that you will be discarding.
Delcatty EX/Gyrados*-  Use gyrados * to discard a lotta energy then use delcatty EX to use Upstream for ALOT of damage.
Delcatty EX  goes with any deck that has alot off special energy or regular energy in the discard pile and it works with decks that need to discard Pokemon or energy or trainers. These decks include

Mercury
Dragtrode
ZRE
Maroswap
Delta decks

Overall i give Delcatty EX a 7/10

RE: Next review: Delcatty ex

As for this week, we shall review a card which is called Delcatty ex from Ex: Crystal Guardians, though it has not been released yet.

Attributes

Ultimately, Delcatty is a pokemon-ex. Let’s use our enthusiasm to hail the born of Delcatty as pokemon-ex, hurray. Being a pokemon-ex, it has special abilities and special drawbacks. Delcatty ex is a stage 1 pokemon. Therefore, instruments for getting it out are PETM, Absol’s Extra call, Wally’s training, etc. Furthermore, it is a colorless pokemon which is no good in modified format and current metagame today. Nowadays, fighting deck has an overwhelming reputation and is heavily played amongst players such decks as Rock-Lock, Queendom, turn- 2 Hariyama ex, etc. The only way to get rid of the Delcatty ex’s terrible weakness is TRR Kingdra’s Dragon Veil poke body. Its body states ‘As long as Kingdra is in play, each of your active pokemon has no weakness ’, but it is pointless because of the appearance of LM Mew, it specialized in copy the same type as your defending pokemon is. For instance, you have a fighting type pokemon and your opponent has LM Mew as active, LM Mew use its type change power and copy the type your pokemon has, reversal/POW up Delcatty ex and OHKO it. Things that annoyed me when I saw this card are Delcatty ex has 90 HP, which is immensely low and has no resistance to safeguard against other type pokemon. It would better if Delcatty ex has a resistance to something. The disadvantages that Delcatty ex would probably face are ‘Snipers’ such as Steelix ex simply snipe it and scores 2 prizes with ease. Besides that, though Delcatty ex has a 90 HP which is it can’t be affected by desert ruins but has a poke-power which sounds very bad to cursed stone and BF. BF shuts Delcatty ex’s Limitation power off because it is colorless evolved pokemon. Cursed stone states ‘each player puts 1 damage counter on his or her pokemon that has a poke-power between turns, Pluse DX is an obstacle, too, and is heavily played in most decks for the sake of searching out basic pokemon. Moreover, it has an attack which is called positive spark, does 20 damage to each of your opponent’s pokemon that has poke-power. When CG is released, Pluse DX works great with Shiftry ex that really pwns Delcatty ex.

Here’s the card spoiler of Swifty ex, thanks to pokebeach.com.
Shiftry ex - Darkness – HP140
Stage 2

Poke-Body: Dark Eyes
Whenever 1 of your opponent’s Pokemon uses a Poke-Power, afterwards, place 2 damage counters on that Pokemon.

[D][C] Target Attack: Does 30 damage to 1 of your opponent’s Pokemon. If that Pokemon already has damage counters on it, this attack does 50 damage instead.
[D][C][C] Slicing Blade: 70 damage.

Weakness: Grass/Fighting
Resistance: Psychic
Retreat: none

Delcatty ex has its downside and it has its virtues. It has no retreat cost, pay nothing to retreat is always a good thing.

Let’s discuss the card in depth…

Abilities

Delcatty ex has a poke-power which is called Limitation, it power states’ each player discards cards from his or her hand until they have only have 6 cards left. (You discard first). The advantage is if your opponent has a bunch of cards in his or her hand, use Limitation. Your opponent is forced to discard his or her hand until they have 6 cards left. You yourselves exposed to the poke-power unless you have a legitimate deck strategy. Why I say so, Delcatty ex has an attack which is called Upstream and its attack connect with Limitation obviously. It is a profitable attack because it helps you to retriev those vital energy cards back into your deck. You might ask ‘How can I get back those energy cards back into my hand and energy rain’. Remember Holon Lass? Holon Lass is essential for getting back those shuffled energy cards back into your hand. Here’s one of the strategy I can think of, say, you have a Lugia ex as active, Blastoise ex and Delcatty ex stay on bench, you realize that Lugia ex can’t survive longer because it only has 100 HP, energy rain as many as you want, as I said, Lugia ex can’t survive longer, put that many damage counters on Lugia ex in order to achieve its last shot. After Lugia ex get OHKO’d, automatically it goes to the discard as well as energy cards, send Delcatty ex as active and use Upstream attack (depends on energy cards remain in your discard pile). It can OHKO most of the dragon-type pokemon like Dark Dragonite, Flygon ex, Salamence ex, etc. The second attack, Tail Slap is a normal attack which can be done by various pokemons. Doing 60 for (c)(c)(c), I would like to say boost energy will save you lots of time instead of attach a energy card to it turn by turn.

Uses and combinations

Flygon ex

1 of the best combos I can think of is Flygon ex with Delcatty ex.  I intend to build this deck for giving it a try. The combos go like this, first of all, start with skitty and lay down your Tranpinch on your bench. I shall recommend the LM’s one because it works in line with my deck strategy, use quick errands and search your deck for a React energy card, repeat the process for several turns. You need more draw power in your deck in order to get more stuffs, feel free to attach 1 or 2 energy to Tranpinch. (do not evolve to Flygon ex immediately even if candy is in your hand). The opportune moment has arrived, it is time to evolve Delcatty ex, whether you evolve the active or benched one, provided that you have skitty on your bench. Limitation lets you discard your hand until you have 6 cards left as well as your opponent. (discard at least 2 reacts), evolve Tranpinch or Vibrava to Flygon ex in any way you like. Flygon ex’s Emerge Charge power states: Once during your turn, when you play Flygon ex from your hand to evolve 1 of your pokemon, you may search your discard pile for up to 2 energy cards and attach them to Flygon ex. Furthermore, Flygon ex covers Delcatty ex’s dreaded fighting weakness.

Garydos* aka The Last Attacker

I shall focus on Garydos*’s All-Out Blast attack, It requires 4 fire energy cards. That isn’t a problem because Typhlosion ex’s bursting up power helps it out, of course, Garydos* is used to nuke a powerful pokemon, even your pokemon can’t beats it during late game which is yours and your opponent’s pokemon are fully powered and setup. Delcatty ex’s Upstream attack shuffles all energy cards from your discard pile back into your deck, evolve Typhlosion ex in any way you like and bursting up Garydos*. It is gonna to shave
Off your deck cards until you have 1 card left in your deck.

Give it a try. There are various combos that I can think of such as Blissey ex, Groudon ex, Metagross ds, suicune*, etc.

Overall, Delcatty ex is still a promising card. I give it 7/10 in modified format

That’s all for the card review. Feel free to criticize my article via PM or IM. See you next time. Cheers.

RE: Next review: Delcatty ex

Hiya,

Today’s COTW is about a new card, that has not been released yet…It is the card from the next set, Crystal Guardians. Many people say this card has a lot of potential…That is true, like WPM said, we do the articles to make people prepare for the future cards.

HP: 90
-Even though Delcatty ex is saved from Desert Ruins (which will also be rotated after Worlds, so I see no use.)It is very low for a Stage 1. Since Cursed Stone came out, which let’s you put 1 damage counter on each Pokemon that has Poke-Power, Delcatty’s HP will be a problem.

Poke-Power : Limitation
-I love this Poke-Power…One of the most disruptive type after Dark Slowking’s Cunning. If your opponent have lots of cards in his/her hand, you can just use this power to disrupt their strategy. The only flaw in this power is you need the right timing to use this power. Limitation also works well with Delcatty’s first attack. We’ll come back to that later.

Attacks:
[C] Upstream 10x
-Ah…Finally PCL decided to bring this attack back. It used to be called Riptide, one of the most dominant archetype in Unlimited. This attack is quite hard to use early game, since you won’t have energies to be returned to your deck. That’s where Delcatty ex’s Poke-Power comes in. Using Limitation, you can discard energies from your hand. Then, you can return it to your deck using Upstream…While dealing a big amount of damage.

[C][C][C] Tail Slap 60
-Nothing really special about this attack…60 for 3 [C] is quite nice…You can use this attack T1 or T2 with Boost Energy.

Weakness: [F]
-Well…Medicham ex will be used more after the rotations so it will be more widely used. Also, be careful with Machamp….Both of them can OHKO you.

Retreat cost:
-The best retreat cost…free retreat cost!! ^-^

Combos

Banette and Banette ex:
-Well…Banette’s Shadow Steal lets you do 10 + 20 for each Special energy in your opponent’s Discard pile…Also, it’s second attack lets you put damage counters on the Defending Pokemon for each Pokemon in your Discard Pile. Banette ex’s attack lets you do 30 + 10 for each Supporter cards in your Discard Pile. By using Delcatty’s Poke-Power, Limitation, you can make your opponent discard Special energies, and you can let yourself discard Pokemon or Supporter cards, and deal lots of damage.

Final Turn – Red Gyarados:
-Well…It’s quite crude really…You charge up Gyarados d *, and use All Out Blast, and then retreat, and use Upstream to get the energies back, and use the same attack again. Told you it was crude.

There are many more combos to be revealed, they are just waiting to blow. Since it’s not even out yet, we can only guess how far this card can go.

Final Rating:
Unlimited:  9/10
Stage 1 Riptide. With all the trainers like Trash exchange and everything, all you have to say is…gg.

Modified: 7/10
Like I said before, there are so many ways to use this card, we just have to wait for it. I give 7 for it’s high potential.

That’s all for today’s Card Of the Week. Hope to see you again,

Cya.

RE: Next review: Delcatty ex

Card of the Week

No.4

Delcatty EX-Crystal Guardians

Pokebeach’s 4th COTW is now here. This time it is Delcatty EX from the forthcoming EX Crystal Guardians.

Overview

Delcatty is a ST.1 Pokemon so it is easy to evolve from and quick to recover from any devolution.
It has two Basic Pokemon called Skitty. One is from Legend Maker and the other is from Crystal Guardians. Both have 50 HP (the standard for Basics these days), LM Skitty can search for a React Energy for © whilst CG Skitty does a straight 10. They both have second attacks with LM Skitty being able to do 10 damage or 30 damage with a HEADS coin flip for © © and CG Skitty has a Feint Attack that enables you to select one of your oppositions Pokemon and do 20 to it for © ©. They both have a Fighting weakness (typically), no resistance and both have a single © retreat cost.
Legend Maker Skitty is useful for decks that run React Energy but considering that you will be using Delcatty EX and not LM Delcatty (the one orientated around React Energy), I would say that the first Skitty is inferior to the new CG Skitty which also has the delicious ability to snipe with Feint Attack.

Delcatty EX has 90 HP. It is good for a ST.1, but with other ST.1 Pokemon EX like Medicham EX (110 HP), Scizor EX (120 HP) and Steelix EX (150 HP) all outclassing this pussycat with their large-gigantic HP, I would not say that 90 HP Delcatty EX is bad since it gives it the ability to avoid Desert Ruins, which unfortunately will not be legal by the time Crystal Guardians comes out. 90 HP is also not a very hard OHKO target for most hard-hitting Pokemon these days. Arcanine EX, Slowkings, Espeon EX (situational) Machamp, Medicham EX, Metagross d, Steelix EX and even more will have no trouble OHKOing Delcatty EX and giving your opponent a 2 prize advantage. Overall, I would say this is NOT good HP for Pokemon EX and especially for a Pokemon that will usually be in the Active slot a lot during the game.

Poke-Power: Limitation.
This is a proper good power. It allows you AND your opponent to (once per turn) discard cards from both of your hands until you both have 6 cards in your hands. As you can clearly see: truly devastating disruption. There are so many possibilities with Limitation. If you have a big hand and your opponent plays Holon Scientist, they will get a big hand, likely over the 6 card limit. If they keep the majority of their cards in his/her hand (this happens more than you actually think), then next turn, play as many cards as you need (so you get to/under 6) and then use Limitation and make them discard a lot of cards from their hand.
This is a very creative power and I will be showing you the possibilities of Limitation in the Combo section.

Upstream ©.
For those of you who were around at the time of the Neo Genesis metagame, many of you will be having flash-backs to a certain card know as Feraligatr. That was card which, when combined with a Neo Revelation Parasect, was able to keep Energy cards in the discard pile and allow Feraligatr to do 10x the amount of Energy cards in the discard pile. The damage (with the help of many Trainer cards helping the Energy reach the discard pile) quickly soared to over 120 and the ParaGatr archetype was the most feared in the game next a little deck called Slowking/Sneasel.
Anyway, enough with the history lessons, Delcatty EX has Upstream that the same effect as Riptide and this opens up many possibilities for Delcatty EX to be a very strong card and (hopefully) part of some very big decks.
Combo section will be home to many ways of how Upstream can be utilized but so far, the most talked about combo is the widely controversial Gyrados* which is the talk-of-the-town and is tipped off to be one of the 2006-2007 seasons biggest archetypes. I will wait until the combo section to discuss Upstream but let me tell you, this is one hell of an attack and don’t be surprised to see it in your local Gym-Challenges after Crystal Guardians release.

Tail Slap.
©©© for an straight 60 damage. Nothing special really. Boost Energy can help on T1-T2 or for surprise attacks but that is about it. Nothing special. Just an average attack.

Fighting weakness is not pretty. Medicham EX and (possibly) Machamp will be played lot after the rotation and they can both OHKO Delcatty EX with no problem at all. It is a common type and after the Worlds, you will have to have a lot of protection against weakness if you are to play Delcatty. After all, to Fighting types you have 45 HP…

No resistance is the worst resistance. You shouldn’t expect any reisistance on Delcatty anyway. Though in the days of WOTC, most Colorless Pokemon had resistance to Psychic (Ghost traits from the games).

FREE RETREAT!! Oh yes I love my free retreats. Last seen on that oh-so broken Espeon EX from Unseen Forces, Delcatty brings the best retreat cost the House of EX once again. Abuseable with Warp Point and Switch, you will find a strong attacker like this cat to be extremely mobile and it will be easy to use since you no worry of being unable to retreat unless you are under Asleep or Paralysis. Lovely.

Combos

This will be a long section since Limitation and (especially) Upstream have a VERY big list of possibilities I will do my best to list as many as I can.

Upstream:

• Gyrados*: Use All-Out Blast, next retreat/switch and then use Upstream to save yourself and do a simply massive amount of damage. This the main talk of Delcatty EX and probably the best combo to go with it. Thought the aspect of you coming 1 turn from instant loss makes it very risky, the results could be well worth it since you do 300+ with All-Out Blast and 100 onwards next turn with Upstream. It also goes well with other combos soon and also almost guarantees you 2+ prizes when pulled off correctly.
• Metagross d: Use Crash and Burn to discard as many Energy as possible, then bring in Delcatty EX and Upstream for as much damage as you can. Not as good as the All-Out Blast combo nor as effective/synergetic as Metanite but it works and can win matches.
• Lugia EX: Just a small one but it could pay off. Attach as many energy to Lugia EX as can you can whilst stalling. Once Lugia is ready, let rip a few consecutive Elemental Blasts, retreat once exhausted then Upstream for even more damage. Not proven yet but it can pay off. Beware of Dustox EX though.
• Bannette EX: It should really be Gyrados*-Bannette EX but Delcatty EX is needed so I guess it counts. Basically after you used the All-Out Blast combo, bring in Bannette EX and if your deck was full of Supporters, then Bannette EX will be dishing out wholly amounts of damage consistently. Not bad.

You are probably thinking: “I thought the list was gong to be full of Upstream combos! Why only 4?” Well, Crystal Guardians has not been released yet and so many combinations have not yet been discovered yet.
These are the few of which are already open and people are already speculating on their success.

Limitation:

• Holon Scientist: Keep your hand large and make your opponent use Scientist to draw a ton of cards. If your opponent does not play the majority of their cards (this can happen more than you think), next turn, play as many cards as you can so you go to/under 6 cards, unleash Limitation and your opponent loses a chunk of their hand.
• FieldWorker: This is more pscychoclogical. Basically either you or your opponent play Fieldworker and both of you need to think ‘do I need to draw another card?’. If your opponent thinks he/she needs the cards then next turn Limitation can certainly spoil their hopes a bit.
• Bannete EX/Omastar d/Delcatty EX: This works better. Make your hand big and then use Limitation to discard Supporters (Bannette EX)/Fossil Pokemon (Omastar d) or, funnily enough, Energy so Delcatty can combo in with itself. It is decent and controllable.

Again. “Why only 3?”. Limitation looks good but we simply do not know 100% yet. These are just speculations and ideas. Note that there will be A LOT more in the future when the set finally arrives.

Overall

Well, this one will bug us for a while until the pre-releases but Delcatty EX is one of the most anticipated cards from Crystal Guardians and is certain to make it into a deck or two with the veteran players making great pleasure in seeing Riptide being reincarnated in the form of Upstream. Although I have been covering the New Modified format (EM-onwards), I think that Delcatty EX will see a lot more play in Unlimited as a ST.1 Feraligatr. There it can combo with a lot more things like Copycat, Imposter Oak, Trash Exchange, Computer search, Professor Oak, Slowking and Parasect and a whole ton more. It may not have been released yet but it is showing great promise and can potentially be an archetype despite some obvious downsides.

Umlimited: 8.5/10---Brilliant. Basically a ST.1 Feraligatr with a devastating power for an environment such as it is in Unlimited. One of the best EXs in this format next to Vileplume EX and Suicune EX.

New Modified Format: 7.5/10---Looking very good. Since it is not released yet the true potential has not been revealed yet. But based on what has already been shown, it still manages a decent score.

Draft/Limited: 7/10---It's an EX so drafting one will be difficult. Upstream is an absolute lifesaver and Limitation is awesome if it is played right. Tail Whap isn’t that bad either.

RE: Next review: Delcatty ex

Okay it’s time for out next COTD review.  Today’s is Delcatty ex from EX Crystal Guardians.

The Card:
Delcatty ex is very good because it can combo with a lot of things.

Its Poke-power, Limitation allows you and your opponent to discard cards from your hands until you have only six cards left in your hand. This can be good with its first attack.

The first attack is called Upstream, and it’s very good.  It does 10 damage for each Energy card in your discard pile, then shuffles back all of your energy cards into your deck, for only 1 Colorless energy!

Its second attack, Tail Slap, does  60 damage for three Colorless energies.  That’s a little too much Energy , though , but can be used with Boost Energy.

There are a few deck ideas that there is around this.
They should involve something with discarding energy's.

One is Gyarados*. With Gyarados’ All-Out-Blast attack, it can kill just about any of your opponent’s pokemon, then you retreat and use Delcatty to blast another Pokemon, and get all of your energies back into your deck so you can All-Out-Blast again. The downside of this is that you can only have 1 Gyarados* in your deck.

Another deck i would see is with Metagross from Ex:Delta Species!!
It can discard alot of energy's and do great damage , and then Delcatty can put the energy's back in your deck , and do a big amount of damage!
Only downside is that you don't get energy on your Pokèmon in time.

Analogy:
There are not many things that you can do to make this card better.  The weakness is a given, so not much to do about there.  The HP I would boost up to 110, just because it seems a little bit less for an EX Pokemon.I would also boost up the damage that Tail Whap can do, to 70.

Overview:
Delcatty ex is definitely going to see a lot of play when it is released, and
It has 90 HP which is good for escaping Desert Ruins, but 90 HP is just too little for a stage 1 ex, but still good:)

I give it a  7/10.

Until next time, bye!
:D

RE: Next review: Delcatty ex

Delcatty ex (Ex: Crystal Guardians)

The next upcoming expansion, Ex: Crystal Guardians, has a new Pokemon-ex that many people have their eyes on: Delcatty ex, to be exact.

Delcatty ex has 90HP, making it a middle-of-the-road Pokemon that has a lot to live for.  It also can come into play rather quickly (being a Stage 1), making it a new Electrode ex, in my opinion.  Delcatty ex has a Fighting Weakness, so if a new-format deck that uses fighting Pokemon (Blaziken ex CG and Exeggutor-d HP both come to mind), it may have problems here.  A free retreat cost is very nice, balancing its low HP, and makes for a swift and deadly attacker.

I’ll move straight into the attack, Upstream…or Riptide, for those who remember.

For [C], Upstream does 10 damage times the number of energy cards in the discard pile.  Not only that, it also shuffles all the energy in the discard pile back into the deck.  Energy discarding will not be uncommon next year, and with Delcatty ex there to replenish your deck with them, it’s a very nice compliment.

Delcatty ex also has Tail Slap for [C][C][C], doing 60.  This is a simple damaging move that you shouldn’t be using very often, if at all.

Delcatty ex also comes with a Poke-Power.  The power, Limitation, makes both players discard from their hands until they have 6 cards remaining in their hand.  This both can fuel the Upstream attack and disrupt your opponent.

I’m psyched to move on to the combos…so here’s what I have to offer!

Delcatty ex + Porygon2: Limitation makes a nice setup for Porygon2’s Backup.  By playing out your hand after having 6 cards in your hand, you can then Backup until you have 6 again.  This makes for a nice hand replenishing combo, possibly even a nice draw engine next year.

Delcatty ex + Charizard-d + Bannette ex: Charizard-d’s Poke-Power, known currently as “Lightning”, takes the top 5 cards of your deck and attaches all energy found there to 1 of your Pokemon.  Then, the remaining cards are discarded.  Charizard’s attack, Metal Burn, discards all [M] energy attached to Charizard and does 100 damage.  Delcatty can then use Upstream in order to shuffle them back into the deck to be brought back into play, hopefully, by another Lightning Poke-Power next turn.  The reason I mention Bannette ex into this by the use of Lightning’s discard and by Limitation’s discard.  Both discard cards, hopefully with some of those being Supporter cards.  You could power up Bannette very quickly both by having only a 2 energy cost and by the use of Charizard-d, doing the maxed out 90 damage in no time.

Delcatty ex + Gyrados* + ???: This has been the most discussed combo of all, seeing Gyrados*’s godly amount of damage it can do, in conjunction with Delcatty ex’s refreshing of the deck, and then with another blast of Gyrados*’s attack.  True, this will be one of the most played variations of the Delcatty ex decks.  However, Delcatty ex and Gyrados* don’t work like a fine tuned engine everyone hopes it to be.  The problem with Gyrados* is the awful [L] weakness it carries, with the abundance of [L]-type Pokemon next year.  The only practical solution…seeing the issue of switching Gyrados* out of being Active, whether by a Fluffy Berry or by Pelipper-d’s Poke-Power, instead there was a whole new approach to the deck.  And so now I say…Mew ex!  Mew ex can copy both Gyrados*’s All-out Blast and Delcatty ex’s Upstream attack, allowing both to sit safely on the Bench while the Mew ex plays out the perfect combination of the two attacks.

Delcatty ex + Arcanine ex with Huntail/Delcatty LM: Well, seeing how this variant of Arcanine already plays Delcatty LM, it seems like a practical late-game attacker that can shuffle back the React Energy.  From there, Huntail can bring them back out and then onto Arcanine ex again through Delcatty LM.  This one may see use too, just because of how useful the tech option is here.

All of the above…they all will see use I’m sure in the next format, it’s due to Delcatty ex’s amazing splashibility.

So, as one can see, I feel that Delcatty ex will be VERY useful next year, and to prove it, I give it the first of these grades I’ve handed out…I give Delcatty ex a 9 out of 10.

I hope you enjoyed this article!

RE: Next review: Delcatty ex

so sorry!!!

HP is pretty low for a stage 1 pokemon, but its still better then 100 (Because it avoids desert ruins). Its weakness is a HUGE problem to all fighting decks flying around today's Metagame (Machamp, EspyCham, Nidoqueen...). It's poke-power, however is devastating. It discards yours AND your opponent's cards from hand until you both have 6! With its attack, upstream and cards Like Holon Lass, Aerodactyl Delta, Mr. Stone's Project or in unlimited Delcatty Ruby/sapphire, you can discard huge amounts of energies each turn and hit opponent for huge amounts of damage for only 1 energy! Imagine this: You use Holon lass and pick...7 energies. Then, use power of Aerodactyl delta and get 4 more! You now have 11! Use limitation, discard them....110 for 1 energy and you discarded some of opponent's cards!!! Add some cards Like Porygon2, to draw even more cards, you can easily smash opponent! Gyrados* is also a very known combo. It takes 4 fire energy and discards cards from your deck, until it is only 1 left and do 20 for each energy discarded. You pretty much the KO defending pokemon. Next turn, use switch for delcatty ex and recycle all the energies back to deck and do even MORE damage you did before!

In modified: 8/10-Low HP and fighting weakness are big problems!
In sealed: 6/10-You can discard energies with limitation and do some damage with tail slap.
In Unlimited: 9/10-In such a high draw format, discarding opponent's hand is huge! Also, you can grab huge amount of cards with trainers like Bill, Erika.....And delcatty (R/s) can discard 1 energy and grab you 3 cards! Get 4 of them on the field, discard 4 energies and get 12 cards, then use Surprise time machine and get Delcatty ex out, use limitation, discard like 10 more cards and do 140!!!
