Ok, so it's pretty common knowledge that diancie shares a lot of similarities with carbink. But when you get the diancite for your diancie in ORAS (available now until monday) the people who ask you for diancie say diancie is a mutation of carbink. So yeah, quite a big bit of information a lot of people may have missed by speeding through the text.

I don't know much about her, but I always figured that she has some kind of relationship with Carbink.
It is odd, how Carbink isn't her pre-evolution. However, it is pretty original on their part, and it definitely adds to the overall mystery behind Diancie.

As for the mutation subject. This reminds me of Mewtwo, and how it also look like an evolution of another Pokémon- Mew, but instead, it is sort of mutation of Mew, made by humans.
Based on Diancie's design and other small things, I believe Diancie is a natural mutation and not something that was made by men to create a deadly Pokémon.
 
Diancie was probably designed as a natural evolution for carbink, and for some reason it was decided that they weren't connected enough or that it wasn't worth it, or that carbink was just too "standalone" looking to have an evolution.

But, they liked the design too much to just scrape it (and why wouldn't they? look at her, she's fabulous), so they made up something about a mutation of carbink and made her an event, depriving all of us who adore carbink the chance to raise a diancie in-game every time we want to.

I'll never forgive them for that. Never.
 
I was just hoping they would have at least made Diancie able to breed with Ditto to produce Carbink eggs, like the Phione case. That would have been cool enough for me.
 
So, DIancie is a mutation? I was going to say that his proves that there can be evolution without "Poké evolution" but it might be the case where what triggers the pk-evo is simply not known and so it only said as a mutation.

I honestly hate how Carbink were made servants of Diancie in the movie and honestly hope that this doesn't happen in videogames.
 
It was revealed that she shared a relationship with many Carbinks in Diancie and the Coccoun Of Destruction.
