Playing Magnezone/Eelektric/Thundurus
So yeah, I go to school on Friday discouraged because my mom told me we were not able to go to Cities on the following day. When she picked me up that afternoon, she told me she was able to get in touch with my Great Aunt and we were going to stay with her on Saturday night (So we could avoid getting a hotel.)
So we get up on Saturday around 5:45 and get on the road. We had about a 3 hour trip to my Aunt’s house to drop off our stuff, and another 45 minute ride to Lock Haven. Finally we show up at the hall where the tournament was being held and nobody’s there (We got there about 30 minutes before registration started.)
Around 10:55, the TO shows up and lets us in. I get a few practice games in and then it was time to turn in our decklists. Shortly after, the pairings go up…. And you know what time it is now:
(Oh, by the way, I don’t remember very many names because I am writing this on Tuesday night, sorry!)
Round 1: ???- ZPST
He starts out with Pachirisu, I start with 1 Thundurus and 1 magnemite. I go first, attach to Thundurus, and charge. He draws, attaches, benches his top-decked Zekrom and passes. I attach again to my Thundurus, and for the first time of the day, Candy into Magnezone. After a few misplays on his part, the game really just falls into my favor.
GG
1-0
Round 2: ???- Chandelure without Vileplume
Really not a lot to say about this one, I get turn 2 Magnezone and Eel and Lost Burn 3 Energies for KO on his lone Chandelure.
GG
2-0
Round 3: ???- Cinccino w/ other stuff that I can’t remember
I start off really well with Thundurus and just roll his Minccinos before they evolve.
GG
3-0
Round 4: ???- Reshiphlosion
I start with some Magnemites, he starts with 2 Cindiquils. In the end, we see no development from his side (Other than a single Beat from Cindiquil.)
GG
4-0
Round 5: Geoffrey S.- Chandelure w/ Vileplume
We both start well (Once again I get a T2 Magnezone.) In the end, it’s one to one prizes, but I have 2 energies attached to my active Magnezone, with 11 in the Lost Zone… I only played 13 Lightning and he had a Chandelure active.
GG
4-1
So standings come out and I make 2nd, meaning I’m up against Brad G. in the Top 4.
Top 4: Brad G.- google w/ Kyurem
Game 1:
This one went really quickly. I get setup really fast (Once again with the T2 Zones.) I really just overpower him and it’s over.
1-0
Game 2:
I get a really slow start and he gets a T3 Glaciate. I proceed to scoop once he kills 2 Magnemites and one Tynamo.
1-1
Game 3:
I get a better setup than Game 2, but worse than Game 1. He gets a mediocre start. Finally, once I get 2 Tynamos in play, he scoops because he was going out to dinner that night and had to get home. (Thanks Brad!)
2-1
Top 2: Geoffrey S.- Chandelure w/ Vileplume
Game 1:
This one played out exactly like our Round 5 game. I ran out of energies and had to face his Chandelure with only 2 Energies left in play.
0-1
Game 2:
I got setup really fast and overwhelmed him. He scooped early since Game 1 took a long time.
1-1
Game 3:
This one was kind of close. I had a 3-6 prize lead. However, as soon as I took my forth prize, I thought to myself “Hmm, I wonder if he prized his Jirachi”, as I stared at my heavily damaged Magnezones and Eel. Sure enough, he drops a Twins, grabs Jirachi and lands 2 heads on it. He attaches a third and takes 3 prizes. At this point I have no way of turning the game around, and it goes downhill from there.
GG
1-2
So overall, I had a really good run for the first Cities of the year (Well, for me anyway.)
LESSON LEARNED: Play more Energies! (Lol)
Championship Point Total: 9
Props:
5 Cpoints
10 Packs (Pulled FA Terakion, Kyurem, 2 N, Hydreigon)
Codes!
Having a lot of fun in Top 4 with Sound Effects!
Brad scooping to me in Top 4!
Meeting new people!
Fun games against Chandelure (Even if I did lose.)
Having fun with MagneEel
Slops:
Not figuring out that darn Chandelure deck
The place being cold
The upstairs room where we played Top 2 being even more cold!
That’s about it
Well, sorry about a lot of the names being “???” and the reports of some games being short, but I got sick on Sunday and was just not feeling up to writing this before now.
But as always,
Thanks for reading!
