Ruling Echolocation VS. Mist Slash

My intuition says that Mist Slash shouldn't trigger the Echolocation flip, or at least ignore it, but I wasnt entirely sure.

You're right. Mist Slash ignores effects on the target, which is exactly what Echolocation is. No flip required.
