Eevee Late 3rd place MD States report

Whatever you do, don't play Half-Life in the dark.

I woke up at early in the morning to get ready to go and to finish building my brother’s deck. I tried to talk him into playing Plasmaklang with Durant instead of Garbador. He still wanted to play Garbador. We get to venue after being stuck in traffic for 20 minutes because of a broken down school bus. My brother and I get there and register. While we waited for the event to start, I helped a couple of new players fix their decks. I am playing Empoleon/Dusknoir while my brother is playing Durant/Garbador. I just want to apologize in advance if I describe the matches wrong.

Round 1 vs Fluffychomp
She started Swablu to my Mewtwo EX. She goes first. She gets out a Gible and passed. After using Cheren and Level Balls, I got the DCE and a Piplup and a Duskull. I KOed the Swablu. She evolved the Gible into Gabite and Dragon Called for a Druddigon. She used Pokemon Communication for a Garchomp. She attacked for 20. I Rare Candied the Duskull into Dusknoir and evolved the Piplup to Prinlup. I Ned her to get rid of the Garchomp. Like a lucksack, I drew another DCE. I attached it and X-Balled for the KO. She attached to Druddigon and benched a Swablu. I evolved the Prinlup to Empoleon. I X-Balled for 80. She attached an Eviolite and Guard Pressed for 20. I X-Balled for the KO. She sent up Swablu and passed her turn. I X-Balled for the win.
1-0

Round 2 vs Zekeels
All I can remember is Lasors, Sinister Hand and Catchers were the MVPs for this matchup.
2-0

Lunch Break. Sandwiches. I read some of my Assassin Creed book while getting some free pizza. :D
Round 3 vs Gothitelle/Accelgor
He opened up with Mew EX to my Piplup. He gets out a Shelmet and 2 Gothita. I decide to get rid of the Gothita first. I fetch out a Mewtwo EX and a DCE to KO one of his Gothitas. After a couple of turns, he sets up the lock. I figured at this point I lost because he would just be able to keep paralyzing my pokemon. After he KO my Empoleon, I decide to do a gutsy move and attacked his Gothitelle with my Mewtwo EX. This move pays off in the long run since the damage helped secure the last KO I needed later in the match. He used Mew EX to KO the Mewtwo. However by doing this, he gave me the opening I needed. By not being in the lock anymore, I was able to take the opening and started getting damage on board. I moved 30 damage from the Gothitelle he retreated to the Mew EX for the KO with Empoleon. By doing this, I was able to get rid of his only DCE in play and his main attacker. (He only attacked with Accelgor once.) After this, I concentrated on getting rid of any Shelmet and Accelgor in play.
3-0

Round 4 vs Keldeo/Blastoise
He was able to set up way faster than me and was able to win. Plus, he was able to get water energies like crazy.
3-1

Round 5 vs Keldeo/Balstoise KO T2. I started Piplup to his Squirtle. I go first. I used Pokemon Communication for a Mewtwo EX because I have the DCE in hand. I benched the Mewtwo EX. I decided though to attach the water energy to Piplup. I did this for two reasons. One was I could put some damage on the Squirtle so Mewtwo EX can KO him next turn if I flipped at least two heads. The other reason is so I would be able to retreat Piplup next turn if I did not get the switch. I used fury attack. Like a boss, I rolled three heads. He drew, catchered up my Mewtwo in hopes of stalling me and ended his turn. I drew and attached the DCE for the KO.
4-1

Round 6 vs ?
I cannot remember anything from this match at all. Sorry.
5-1

Round 7 vs Garbador/Landorus
Finally, after having Garbador/Landorus always being next to me, I face one. I started Piplup with a benched Duskull to his Landorus. I played the Mewtwo EX I drew. I attached a water energy and fury attack for 40. He goes and gets out a Trubbish and another Landorus. He hammerheads me for 30 to Piplup and Duskull. I evolved the Piplup into Prinlup and got out another Piplup, Duskull and Roselia. After a few turns, I had 3 Empoleons, a Dusknoir, a Roserade and a Mewtwo EX out. My opponent had two Landorus Exes and a Garbador out. Long story short, I kept using attack command and lasers for the KOs.
6-1

I made top cut as the 4th seed.
Top 16 Garbador/ Landorus EX
Game 1: He T2 KO my lone Piplup.
Game 2: I donked him with Mewtwo EX/DCE.
Game 3: We were not able to donk each other. We both got set up. I was a little slower in setting up. The match came really close. He ran Rocky Helmet so I had to be careful on how I KOed his Pokemon. However, Dusknoir saves me again. I was able to KO his only Garbador. After that, Dusknoir was able to KO the only other trubbish he was able to get out with Sinister Hands. I killed KO a Landorus EX for game.

Top 8 Another Garbador/ Landorus EX
These three games were a lot of fun. My opponent and I kept joking with each other.
Game 1: I donked with Mewtwo EX against his lone Trubbish.
Game 2: He T2 KO me with Landorus EX against my Duskull.
Game 3: I won using attack command against all of his Landorus EXes.

By this time, it was almost 10 PM. I was getting tired.
Top 4 Klingklank
Game 1: I decked out.
Game 2: I won by getting rid of his klinks.
Game 3: I started with Mewtwo EX. Since the DCEs were there for only Mewtwo EX, I decided to attached them even though they would be discarded by Righteous Edge. I figured might as well get some damage on the board at least. Empoleon decided to be a jerk and show itself only twice. My last catcher was prized. If it wasn’t, I would have been able to take out his Klink before he evolved it to Plasmaklang and kept the Mewtwo EXs attacking. I ultimately decked out with my opponent having only one card left in his deck.

Somebody pointed out after the match I had a Pokemon Communication in hand that I could have used to keep myself from decking out. I was slightly disappointed I did not remember I had the communication. However, as I said, I was tired and was not focusing.

I got 3rd out of 92 masters. I was really excited because it was the first time winning a trophy after playing for 5 years. I loved playing Empoleon/ Dusknoir this season

Props:
Lasors (They helped so much in being able to have damage to move around with Sinister Hands)
Glaceon for letting me borrow the lasors.
Finally winning a trophy
Having a reputation of doing well with decks that are out there.
Mom for being awesome in driving my brother and me and staying late so I can play in top cut.
My brother going 2-0 with Durant before losing the rest of his matches.

Slops:
Being tired towards the end. (But winning a trophy makes up for the misplay.)
Steel Pokemon having resistance to Psychic Pokemon.
Landorus EX. (I only used him once out of the entire tournament. He pretty much was just Diving Draw fodder.)

AWESOME JOB!

Top 4 in Masters with top 16 cut? Super impressive.
