Ruling Eight-Sided Dice

OK - I was at a Pre-Release today. I got some lucky rolls with my 8-sided dice (not loaded... just lucky) and my opponent protested. The judge backed him and said 8-sideds are OK at this level if both players agree that they are OK.

I guess they banned all-but-6-sideds from Nationals & Worlds. Ouch!

Why??? Is there any logic behind this or are "they" just trying to get my goat?

I love my 8's --- but I guess I'll have to use 6-er's for heads/tails and reserve the 8's for Damage counters. Doh!

The use of randomizers other than coins is at the sole discretion of the Head Judge.

Higher-level tournaments will generally only allow 6-sided dice.

Other participants (today) were saying that it easier to tamper with 8-sided dice

One judge said that they provided a 6-sided die at a recent high-level event and that was the randomizer that was to be used

Hmmm... I guess if that's the only thing that I am getting upset about, this is still a pretty good world.

I'll go out, get some nifty sixes, and roll-roll-roll.

Thank you Chairman Kaga!

It is. Most d8s have all the odd/even numbers on the same half, which makes it much easier to weight the die for a desired result.

They have done this at US Nationals before.
