Electivire in Competitive Battles

Electivire has always intrigued me as a Pokemon. I've always wanted to use it but I'm unsure as to how really. I love his design. I would use him on Battle Spot, fun battles, some Doubles, some Singles.

This is what I came up with, but I need to know If I'm on the right track.

Electivire @ Life Orb / Choice Band

Naughty / Naive Nature

Discharge
Fire Punch
Ice Punch
Earthquake / Cross Chop

252 Atk / 252 Spe / 4 HP

This is just an idea, and would function as a powerful and Speedy Attacker. Dare I say Sweeper with a Base 95 Speed?

This is just an idea that's been running through my head since Gen 4 and I wanna put it on the table to finally build it.

RE: Electivire.

You'd probably want ThunderPunch or Wild Charge over that Discharge you use. Electivire isn't known for its Special Attack.

RE: Electivire.

Electivire was a pretty hyped Pokémon in the fourth generation, and although it has a promising set-up, it really underperforms in practice. Electivire just doesn't have the speed or power to make use of its stellar coverage consistently. It is still somewhat viable on the right team though, so I would go with something like this:

Electivire @ Life Orb/Expert Belt
Trait: Motor Drive
EVs: 252 Atk / 68 SAtk / 188 Spd
Naïve Nature
- Wild Charge
- Ice Punch
- Flamethrower
- Earthquake

The first two moves are your physical BoltBeam coverage, Flamethrower hits the weaker special defense of things like Tangrowth, Chesnaught, Skarmory, Forretress, Mawile, Scizor, etc., and Earthquake is for additional coverage like the Electric-types you can switch in on. The spread outspeeds neutral-natured base 100s while giving the best boost to both attacking stats.

If you want a physical one, just put on Fire Punch, go Adamant/Jolly with a corresponding EV spread, and the item will still be up in the air, but Electivire shines as a mixed attacker. There might be better spreads, but that's the one I've used in the past.

RE: Electivire.

I tend to run my electivire like this

Electivire @ Expert Belt
Trait: Motor Drive
EVs: 4 Hp / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Naive Nature
- Wild Charge
- Ice Punch
- Fire Punch
- Earthquake

Tends to run well for me. Especially if you can get him in on a electric attack with these Evs 1 motor drive should be enough to out speed heaps of pokemon.

RE: Electivire.

Electivire has great coverage, but he's far too slow to reliably sweep, and he can't even OHKO Gliscor with Ice Punch with full investment, a boosting nature, and EB:

252+ Atk Expert Belt Electivire Ice Punch vs. 252 HP / 184+ Def Gliscor: 269-322 (75.9 - 90.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Poison Heal

Sure, you outspeed a lot if you can snag a Motor Drive boost, but for Electivire to actually do something late-game you need to come in on an Electric-type attack, so good luck conserving your opponent's Electric-type just so you can (maybe) get a boost off of it. DkoY's set is probably the best you're gonna get, although Flamethrower is pretty notable for the reasons Uralya listed.
