Empoleon + Aerodactyl = Death

So I was scrolling through Dark Void on the card lists and saw Empoleon's attack, it
intrigued to me to find a partner and I thought Aerodactyl would be "Near" perfect partner.
The bonus 40 damage would hurt. But The only problem is EelZone. Post and share
your thoughts

Well lets be realistic here- in what world could somebody possibly get out 4 Aerodactyl? Maybe 1 out is fine, possibly 2, but 4 would be crazy. If you played Empoleon with Aerodactyl, you could do a pretty good 120 damage + (# of aerodactyls x 10) killing the dragons and with 2 killing magnezone. Problem is, Empoleon does have a bad weakness, so you could play terrakion. You could beat eelzone by killing as much as possible quickly because you only need 1 energy and a full bench to start doing 70+ damage.

with Exp Share, you can move an water NRG to an Aerodactyl waiting on the bench with a DCE and hit a Magnezone for 100 [(40+10)x2], 120 with a second aerodactyl in play, and 140 with 3 Aerodactyl in play. Additionally, Aerodactyl using DCE lets you easily tech in a MewtwoEX to revenge kill opposing mewtwoEX.

Empoleon has a built-in additive draw power. And its attack is cheap and makes alot of pokemon into easy catcher targets. Notable targets are Eelectric, Victini, Typhlosion, and Celebi. Additionally, having an attack that cost one NRG forces MewtwoEX to have 6 NRG on it to OHKO Empoleon, which is a very good thing.

Negatives are, of course, weakness to Lightning, the Twist Mountain Flip (possibly limiting your control over empoleon's damage output), and the possible Mewtwo donk on Piplup. If you are running 1 cleffa, 1 mewtwo, and 4 piplup, you will give a MCT deck alot of mulligans and then they just donk you.

That deck is a favorite idea of mine as well from the darkrush cards, and I think it has potential, and a maximum theoretical damage output of 160. It also has a GREAT starter in terms of Lapras from PD/HB

Not to mention that it would be very had for Lapras to be donk by MewtwoEX with its 100 HP (and you'll probably get to retreat it for 1 instead of 2 because of an opponents skyarrow bridge, But you'll probably want to use Switch or a DCE to get it out of the active. In a deck that can already use DCE for Aerodactyl and Mewtwo, Lapras is interesting in that it has the ability to donk pokemon with 40 or less HP or a pokemon weak to fire.

I think a deck list would look something like this:

4-2-4 Empoleon
3 Lapras
4 Aerodactyl
1 MewtwoEX
TOTAL: 18

4 Collector
4 Rare Candy
4 Communication (unfortunately nothing here can use Level ball or Heavy ball)
2 Switch
2 Catcher
4 Junk Arm
1 Super Rod
1 XP Share (for Aerodactyl, Mewtwo, and general NRG conservation)
4 Oak's New Theory
4 Sages Training
2 Twist Mountain
TOTAL: 32

7 Water
3 DCE
TOTAL: 10

Here's the problem:

1x Empoleon active (3 Pokemon - 1 Energy to attack.)
4x Aerodactyl on bench (4x Pokemon - 4x Old Amber Aerodactyl - 1-3x Twist Mountain)

Pros:
  • 1 Energy for a guaranteed 100 damage (Active, Defending, 4 Benched, +40 damage (if they stack) )
  • Comical
Cons:
  • Attacker has a highly susceptible weakness (Lightning)
  • 4-6 extra cards dedicated to a singular setup (Old Amber / Twist Mountain), some of those being for coin flips
  • Collector can't be used to bring up Aerodactyls
  • Catcher bait
  • Prized Aerodactyls
Either you don't run Old Amber and you won't get nearly enough Aerodactyls in time, or you do and there is less space in the deck. Overall, this leaves so little room for important trainers and different tech choices, that it just won't be worth it.

But, if you do want to keep down the path of massing Aerodactyls, the Deck Garage is your friend!

^But Empoleon's ability also lets you have some drawpower so that you don't need as many consistency cards.

I think Empoleon is a neat card in general; there's a lot it could be run with. I like the fact that it does have drawpower and that would really help with setting up those Aerodactyl, so I think this could work. It'd actually be really really awesome to have Vileplume/Aerodactyl/Empoleon (though it'd be hard to set up)– Catcher is locked up (as well as every other Trainer), you can simply discard Trainers you don't need with Empoleon, and your opponent doesn't have PlusPower to get extra damage, while you still have Aerodactyl. Just something to think about (though its major drawback would, of course, be that it's extremely slow).

I actually built and tested my own list of this. It's very, very weird. It's good, no doubt about that. Twist Mountain is an obvious must to try and get them out ASAP. I'm not sure what the right way to build this right now is, but I think that the combo has definite potential.

so.... this is really specultive... but there is no way that empoleon is mistraslated, and you put the card from you hand on the bottom of the deck instead of discarding it, huh?
