Ruling Energies counted in HP-on format limit?

Do I have to use basic energies from Holon Phantoms on, or can I use old skool energies?

You can use basic energies from any set. I like the ones from DP. They seem more colorful to me.

I love Emerald energies too. But for a lightning deck I prefer HP and for Psychic and Water I prefer PK lol. Idk, I have o.c.d when it comes to those kinds of things. If they only made basic darks from Emerald.. that'd be sweet lol.

Quick Question though: Are you allowed to use Energies from the World Championship set? Of course if you're using sleeves that cover the back. I like the silver border lol.

I dont think so. every card in that sets are not for official play, so you cant.
I dont see why not, but rules are rules. I think nintendo want you to buy them some theme decks to get the energies.

All cards from the Worlds promo decks are not tournament-legal -- even the Energy.

14.1.11. Alternate-Backed Cards

Only cards with the Pokémon TCG back or the Japanese Pokémon TCG
back may be used in POP-Sanctioned tournaments. Cards printed with any
other back may not be used in a POP-Sanctioned tournament, even if
sleeved with opaque card sleeves.
