Ruling Energies used to pay the attack cost

With Blastoise SW's attack, if I had, say 4 Water energy and a Fighting energy attached to it and used Hydro Pump, could I choose whether I do 70 or 90 damage?

My reason being, you could claim that what you "used to pay the attack's energy costs" were either three water (in which case you'd do 70- because you'd have 1 water energy that wasn't used to pay the retreat cost- 50 + 20 = 70) or that what you used to pay the attack cost were 2 water and the fighting (in which case you'd do 90- Because you'd have 2 water energies that weren't used to pay the attack cost- 50 + 20 +20 = 90).

So, how would this all work?

you would be able to do either 70 or 90. its up to you. although you would obviously have to inform your opponent of the energies you were using for the atack cost to figure out damage. especially if you were changing it around. i don't really know why you would do 70 when you would be doing 90 every turn but thats up to you reallly

You'd have to announce which energies are being used for the attack cost. But yes I'm 98% sure that you can choose the amount of damage.

If only waterlog counted special energies too for unlimited play..(scramble energy) but then that'd be broken :D

Can't. Special energies never count as water energies (or of any other type), until their attached to the pokemon first.

I think what Zinc meant was, use the special energy to pay for the attack, because then any water energies attached to blastoise add more damage.

One, you can, since special energies always can pay for the attack cost.

What Zinc was saying was Waterlog, Blasr's power. It allows you to take any number of water energies from your hand and then attach it to your pokemon. I was simply stating that it was not possible with special energies.
