Energy Cards in Decks

I'm building a deck and I wanted to know if I use Energy cards from older decks that are not on the modified list, would it be tournament legal?

You can use energy from older series. You can NOT use japanese energy however.

Basic Energy, yes.

Special Energy? Only if they've been reprinted in a tournament legal set.

^ Actually, that is only partially correct. All Darkness, Metal, and Multi Energies since RS-on are tournament legal because that is when they changed the text on those cards. Rainbow Energy from any set is legal. However, ^ is correct in that if it hasn't been reprinted in DP-on, you can't use that particular special energy.

And you can have six Japanese cards in your deck. So you can have Japan Energies as long as the sleeves check out.

Actually, you can use pre-RS Dark/ Metal/ Multi energies too as long as you have an RS-on reference.

No, those are unplayable in Modified, unfortunately. Take a look at Upper Energy though, it's the closest you'll get in this format, but even still, situational.
