Ruling Entei Burning Roar + Discard

Ancient Origins Entei's Burning Roar attack includes the clause "If any of those cards are F Energy cards, attach them to your Pokemon in any way you like." Can I choose to keep the energy in the discard, or am I obligated to attach them to my Pokemon that are in play?

Because the discard pile is considered public, you are not allowed to lie about its contents. So if you discard any Fire Energy with Burning Roar, you are obligated to attach them to your Pokemon in play.
