What is Erah?

Erah is a 2D fantasy roleplaying game and also may be considered a work of art. Our goal was, besides implementing numerous, unique innovations, was to create a balanced gaming experience that as many kinds of players can enjoy as possible. So elements from both western and eastern videogaming can be found in our game, which many different types of players may enjoy.

The game takes us to the world of Erah, and through several graspable characters, an immersive story, classic and new roleplay elements leads us to one final conclusion. A conclusion you have the power to change as you learn about the Guardians, the mystical ’living relics’, the long forgotten Archs, and as the decisions you make throughout the game each steer you onto a different path. Replayability is immense, for each time you play a story, you have the option to take a different route, which includes a varying set of characters and quests.

Two separate systems make up the game’s main structure: a turn based tactical battle system and a levelling system where you can fully customize the development of your character. Also, you can craft unique items from the ancient technologies that you come across, or you may choose to pursue Guardians. Furthermore, the characters available for you to recruit to your party are all different, and each of them has an impact on the story itself. Daytime and night time also play a part, as you will experience encounters and events that only occur in a given part of a day.

You have the option to set difficulty as well, as the game offers settings suitable for both casual and hardcore players. For instance, Story mode allows you to play through the main story without any extraordinary hardships, while Legendary mode will challenge even to the most fanatic of players. All in all, the game will include 4 levels so can find the one that suits you best.

Erah is a living and breathing world that lies there, waiting for you to explore it.

F.A.Q.

If you cannot find the answer for your question, feel free to ask! However, these questions were asked so much that I think it's time to collect them. It's easier for you too to check out one post instead of a whole forum.

Q: Where can I download the game?
A: I'm glad you are interested in our project, however, the game is still in development. Feel free to share your suggestions, thought.

Q: How much the game will cost?
A: It will be downloadable free of charge, just like all of its future updates and downloadable contents.

Q: What platforms will the game be released?
A: It's currently developed on PC, however, we're considering the release of other versions too. We are aware that you requested the Android version: we will do our best to do it as soon as possible.

Q: What are you using to create the game?
A: I'm using RPG Maker VX Ace

Q: ...so does that mean that you're just writing the story and that's all?
A: No way! Even though we are using a Game Maker software, the scripts of it are totally rewritten, and we are trying to add as much custom things as possible. The soundtrack will be totally original, and we are also trying to do custom graphics for the characters too. We're using this software because of budget limitations.

Q: Where can I check out [insert random resource]
A: Check out the links in the description. All the background stories, soundtracks, and so on, will be available too. They are updated frequently.

Q: Are you looking for beta testers/moderators/developer/etc. ?
A: We will announce it on our website if we're looking for a new team member, but at the moment, the team is complete and we are doing our best job with the beta testers to create the game as good as possible.

Q: What status is the game in currently?
A: We are currently doing the alpha testing of the game. This means we already have some story elements, characters, and so on scripted, however, it's still not complete, but the main features are done and working.

Q: Is this game for hardcore or casual gamers?
A: Both! We realized during the testing that there are players with different gaming habits and they find different things fun. There are players who are looking for extreme challenges, others are looking for balance (story with challenge), while others are only interested in the story of the game. We will offer 4 different difficulties, all based on these habits.

Looks very nice, kudos!

May I ask what this is coded in? Are you going to port to mobile devices?

Thank you so much!

I'm using RMVXA (RPG Maker VX Ace) as a base, but it's heavily modified and scripted by RGSS3 language. Mobile devices are not planned at the moment, but I'll consider it later.

Thank you so much for the feedback! Yeah, it could be better, since it's just a simple walking animation but with the speed of running. In other words, it's more like a dash than running. However, during simple walking, it's fine.

Thank you so much! Yeah, the music is an important part of the game. It creates its unique atmosphere, and also has a small effect on the gameplay (collectable pieces). The soundtrack will be downloadable on my SoundCloud account free of charge. Currently four tracks are available for download. Feel free to check it out!

RE: Erah: My independent game.

You can probably put this through Greenlight on Steam. Players will be able to vote on what games get accepted and added to Steam's ever expanding catalogue of games.

Do note, there is a $100 fee to gain the rights to upload something to Greenlight. It's to prevent shit-spam, which was ever present when Greenlight was first started. But, small price to pay.

Game looks great! Can't wait to see/hear more!

Thank you so much for the idea! I'll consider it later, however, since it's a freeware software, I think this project can work without it, but I'll think about it.

Thanks for being interested in this project, I'm glad you like it.

RE: Erah: My independent game.

I don't care whatever console it's for. Bottomline: I want it.
The music sounds amazing, it looks like an RPG that was made with a lot of skill and not just thrown together, and it has some pretty awesome player interaction from what I see.
This should be an awesome game.

Thank you so much Haunted Water for your support, it is really appreciated for me, and I'm glad you like the game. I try to do my best by creating an atmospheric soundtrack, which is inseparable from the whole game, and it's nice to see that I could achieve my goal with the huge variety of interactions in the game. Thanks so much again, more information are coming. Also, the Facebook page is frequently updated, feel free to check it out.

RE: Erah: My independent game.

I love the elements that you chose from both the old and new RPGs, western and Japanese, and the game as whole looks so complete with ideas already. I love the maps, the battle scenes, the story, NPC interaction and developing decisions, day-night system, and hopefully more to come! This game is going to be one of the best free games I've ever played.

I wish you luck on this project Sheodon. Can't wait to play it! :]

Thanks so much for the reply! I'm glad you like these ideas and elements I've put to my game. Yes, more things will come with the full game, as some features were not shown in this presentation, like the lack of class system and what I put instead to the game. Thanks for the kind words again, I'm grateful.

Looking for Beta Testers?

Thank you, but the group members are already treated as beta testers, and they will do the closed beta. However, the open beta will be available for anyone who wants to test the game.
