Eusine: Mystery Man.
Beeping.
Cursed beeping, reminding him of the life slowly fleeting from his mother. The mother, tubes running from multiple places on her body, was Tori Minaki. Her son was standing by her bed side, holding her pale hand in his.
“Eusine…Don’t be sad, I’ll be fine…”
Tori Minaki’s hair was pale and stringy, her eyes were tired, and her build was thin. She was dying of some terminal illness. The beeping of the machines around her began to grow louder. Her soft eyes began to close.
“M-Mom! Try to hold on…please!”
The young man with blue eyes and brown hair began to tear up, voice starting to shake.
“My…my favorite Pokemon is Suicune, Eusine.…what’s yours?”
Her voice was wobbly as she said this. Even in death, she was trying to comfort her son like she did when she was younger, when talking about Pokemon always brought joy.
“Mom…please…I can’t lose you….”
Tears began to roll down the young man's face. He gritted his teeth as the constant beeping grew louder, the monitor heart beats becoming softer and lower. He was losing his mother and he couldn’t stop it.
“Yes….Suicune’s nice….maybe I’ll get to ri-ride one some-”
Before she could finish, a vicious spasm rocked her sickly body as the beeping became one ear-splitting ring. The pulses went flat. Her body went limp. Tori Minaki was dead.
The young man fell to his knees, still holding his mothers cold hand in his. He began to weep. He tried his hardest, he really did, but he couldn’t save his mother. She was gone and he was still here. He couldn’t change it, couldn’t help it.
Men in sterile white suits burst into the room and began to work about, checking the body and the machines. One escorted him out to the hallway, face streaked with tears.

The Minaki’s didn’t have much. The funeral was lack-luster, and the casket was far from noble. Only he attended, along with the Chandler and the family Pokemon: Drowzee, Gastly, and Electrode. All he wore was a cheap purple suit, an old pair of white stage shoes, a droopy red bow tie, and a white, small cape to cover himself from the weather if it persists.
She was buried near a small hill, facing a mighty oak tree to the north. The casket was lowered into the hole in the ground as the Chandler recited a small blessing. Raindrops began to fall, and soon it was a downpour. Still, the young man named Eusine stood, looking at the dinky looking tombstone reading his mother’s name.
The hole was filled and his mother was buried below the hill. Her frail voice sounded in his head.
“My favorite Pokemon is Suicune Eusine…….”
“…favorite Pokemon…Suicune…..”
“……………………Suicune……………………”
A bright flash of lightning lit up the sky behind the hill as Eusine looked up. Right as the lightning flash cut the air, a silhouette of a large, four-legged Pokemon appeared. It had amazing glowing yellow eyes that looked right at him. A billowing mane of silky fur flowed behind it, sending out a deathly chill.
It stood, partly shadowed by the oak tree. The strange Pokemon stood tall, as if to challenge Eusine. It slanted it’s eyes and let out a cry before jumping into the air, carrying itself a great length as if riding on the northern wind.
Eusine stood in awe. That was Suicune, right in front of him.
“Wha-…..Is this a sign?” he asked out loud, eyes wide and jaw low.
This was his chance to make it up for losing his mother. He would catch her favorite Pokemon and redeem himself.
“Suicune, I, Eusine Minaki, promise I’ll never give up chasing you until I catch you!”
Eusine ran up to the top of the hill, rain pelting his face.
“I’ll catch you and every other Legendary Pokemon! You hear? I will catch you!”
The three Pokemon attending the funeral approached him, strange looks on their faces.
Eusine regained his composure and returned the three Pokemon, looked once more to the north, and left the cemetery.

He returned back into Ecruteak City. His mother wanted to be buried there despite living in Celadon City. He was going to stay with a childhood friend, Morty, until he made the trip home.
The two men sat on the couch, watching TV inside Morty’s private quarters at the Ecruteak City Gym.
“Hey man, I’m sorry about…you know…” the man in the head band and loose shirt said, comforting his friend.
“Thanks Morty….but don’t be. Everything happens for a reason…”
“Yeah……”
There was silence for a moment, both of them not knowing what to say next.
Morty again spoke.
“Hey, once you rest up in Celadon, me and you should explore Burned Tower. Just like old times, y’know?”
Eusine smiled at his good friend.
“Yeah, that would be great.”
The two men shook hands.
“So now that you’re on your own, what’s the plan for you?” Morty asked, trying to further cheer up his friend.
“Honestly? I’m going to catch Suicune.”
Morty eyed the man dressed in purple funny. Catch a Legendary? That’s near impossible.
“Yeah? How are you going to do that?” he asked with a small chuckle.
Eusine, with a new determined look in his eyes and new goal, looked at Morty with a cocky smirk on his face.
“That’s still a mystery, I guess.”
The two shared a laugh. A laugh that was well needed. A laugh that he needed.
He would catch Suicune or die trying. That was a promise.
