Ruling Evosoda On a Card With No Evolution.

So today a friend tried to play an evosoda on a Hawlucha so that he could dump it out of his hand to be able to bicycle for more cards. He said it would be a fail search and he would be able to just dump it but I feel like he wouldn't be able to target Hawlucha with it because it has no evolution to begin with. If it were another pokemon that had a stage 1 or 2 I would agree with him even if it would be a fail search.

The card says to search your deck for a card that evolves from one of your Pokemon. You can perform the search whether or not you even have a Pokemon in your deck that would be a target. I see no reason why you wouldn't be able to search your deck for a card that evolves from Hawlucha, fail the search (because one doesn't exist), and shuffle your deck.
