Ruling Evosoda question

What happens when I'm looking for a stage 1 or 2 but can't find him because he's in my prize cards and there's no other evolved forms I can use. Do I get the Evosoda card back in my hand, or discard it and I'm just out of luck? So I use it, but nothing evolves. Thank you.

If you search and can't find anything, you've still played Evosoda - you just fail the search and discard Evosoda when you're done.
