The prototype card scandal continues.
In December, uncut sheets of the famous Pikachu trophy cards and a Pikachu Illustrator card were offered for sale by reputable Pokemon sellers. At least one set was purchased by a known Chinese collector, Xiao, for an undisclosed amount that likely exceeded several million dollars. He posted his sheets recently.

This is absolute insanity, there's no way the parties involved will be able to claim ignorance especially Akabane at this point he has way too many connections to it now.

I imagine alot of these files he didn't actually leak himself maybe they came from one of the various large pokemon leaks since 2017, but he most certainly was talked into this borderline NFT project to reprint these cards and force em out into the market.
 
I should add, I'm using the term NFTs here because apparently one of the dudes connected to this whole thing is already tossing the claim out it doesn't matter what year these were printed, as long as it's apart of the series of 10 printed cards it makes em fair game.

Ala, they don't care if it's an actual real card, they are treating this as a project

Is it unclear? I understand giving him the benefit of the doubt, but the cards are supposed to be from his personal collection. He worked with CGC to help authenticate them, FFS. I'm having a hard time imagining a scenario where he wouldn't be involved somehow.

so you're using the term to mean something it doesn't mean in the slightest? using words like "NFT" interchangeably with "scam" like they are the same word?? "yeah so the other day i totally got NFT'd. yeah i fell for a phishing NFT in my email and got my account NFT'd." "the figure i ordered online was a counterfeit. no wonder it was so much cheaper. what an NFT!"

get a grip, please.

no no i think you’re onto something here, considering NFTs were and are perhaps THE most obvious scam in the history of scams, i think they are definitely interchangeable and im gonna start using them as such from now on lol

anyone willing to believe Akabane is being willfully ignorant. no way he wasnt part of this scam, i hope he gets sued and maybe some jail time, this isnt some little scam where he sold a couple fakes of a few hundred or even thousand dollar cards, these are million dollar cards

it's hard to come up with any other explanation beyond their direct involvement in search of a payday, yeah. but as someone who isn't particularly invested in the whereabouts of high dollar collectible cardboard and which millionaire's hands they end up in, i will at least say i am still grateful for the insight into the card game's development the release of this previously unseen material has afforded us, even if the guy appears to have been being dishonest about actually giving up the original materials for sale to collectors (they likely simply came across the original digital files and made new printings).
