Ruling Father looking for a bit of help

Fifa Inspected

Hi All,

I'm a father of a 7 year old who is really digging Pokemon TCG. Since I make it a priority to get on my kid level daily, i'm starting to really enjoy the TCG as well as the books and videos.

I've got a number of questions but i'll start with these two and await direction.

1. Is there a thread for people "New" to TCG that may discuss the rules above and beyond what comes with a deck? For example, see my question below.

2. Are energy cards transferable from one pokemon to another? As in when I attach an energy card to a pokemon during my turn is that energy card then attached to that pokemon until he gets taken out or retreats back to the bench? Similarly, to retreat a pokemon at times requires a certain number of energy cards just to retreat. Assuming that number of cards is attached to the active pokemon, do those energy cards get discarded after the retreat to not be used by any of my pokemon again?

Many thanks in advance.

For the energy questions...

Once you attach an energy card to a pokemon, it stays on that pokemon. Energy cards can be moved around only by using certain Poke-Powers or trainer cards (like Energy Switch). Everything attached to the pokemon including energy cards, go to your discard pile when the pokemon is knocked out.

When retreating a pokemon you have to remove a certain amount of energy cards from it, that go to your discard pile. The energys stay in the discard pile unable to be used, unless you can use a Poke-Power or a trainer card to get it back into your hand, straight onto a pokemon or back into your deck.

Ask away if you still have any other questions. I don't think there is noobie area for new TCG players. This area is just fine to be asking questions like this. Don't be shy to ask. Everyone has been a beginner at some point.

Yes. You can post combos that you have discovered for your self in the Card Combos and Stratagy Forums, or if you have a question about a certain card, you can ask here.

No. Once you attach an energy to one pokemon, it stays on that pokemon. Now, there are certain ways to move energies. Sceptile from POP4 (a reprinted card from EX: Ruby and Saphire) can move any Grass energies from one pokemon to another. He can do this with an effect called a Pokepower. Certain pokemon have these special abilities. They do not count as attacks, so you can use it and still attack. Electivire from Diamond and Pearl can move any electric energies to itself under certain condition. Energy Switch is a trainer card that move one energy from one pokemon to anther one. I hope that helped.

Answers up there.

An "advanced" rulebook (that goes into the nuances the theme deck rulebook skims over or omits completely) is a project I've been working on for a while. PokeGym will be using some of my work in future Compendium updates.

Actually, I'd be willing to post the rulebook here if anyone's interested.

Look around the site and you'll learn lots. Some stuff for beginners are posted by mods on the top of each section. They come in useful sometimes.

Since the energy question has already been answered, I can only encourage you to post whatever questions you might have on the site, you will for the most part get great assistance with the game. I've got two sons 6 and 9 playing now along with my wife and myself.

If I can suggest -- find a local league and start playing there.
