Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help me with my deck. I am trying to make a semi-competitive deck so I can play (and beat) my friends and hopefully join a league in the upcoming months. The deck is based of the drill point theme deck as you can probably tell, here is the list :

20 Pokemon
1 Rhyperior 4
3-3-2 line of Flygon
4-3-1 line of Hippowdon
2 Aerodactyl GL
1 Uxie
21 T/S/S
1 Volkners Philosophy
2 Interviewers Questions
1 Luxury Ball
1 Rare candy
1 PONT
1 Emcee's Chatter
1 Potion
2 Life herbs
2 Aarons collection
4 Bebes search
1 Team Rockets Trickery
1 Judge
1 Cyrus's Initiative
2 Cynthias Feelings

19 Fighting energy

Not the greatest deck but in playtesting it has performed very well but I understand to reach a higher level I will need to spend a bit of money on it.

Strategy: Hit heavy with Hippowdon level x and Flygon is the main strategy. I have Aerodactyl in for draw power and as a decent starter, Rhyperior in just to give some damage to my oppositions pokemon when needed. Bebes search so I can seek out those less prominent pokemon in the deck (mainly Flygon and Hippowdon level x), Felicitys drawing to dump some unneeded cards for some hopefully useful ones and Aarons collection to collect mainly fighting energy but maybe the odd Rhyperior or Aerodactyl. Potions are in there to try to keep my stronger pokemon in play for as long as possible. I also find it useful that Hippowdon lvl x has his pokepower (sand reset) which enables the player to reset all cards in play except pokemon into their deck.

Please make suggestions on how to improve as I would very grateful, thanks in advance!

RE: Deck help for a newbie?

If you wanna make your opponent lose a few cards, Flygon X would be great in here since its power reads like this.

"As long as Flygon Lv.X is your active pokemon, discard the top card of your opponents deck between turns." It becomes a nussiance after awhile.

Reduce that Energy count. Starter decks include massive ammounts of energy which waste a crapton of space. Make the T/S/S line something like this, since Felicitys is banned from this format:

4 Bebes Search
3 Pokemon Collector
3 Pokemon Communication
2 Aarons Collection
3 Professor Oaks Visit
4 PONT (Professor Oaks New Theory)
3 Rare Candy
2-3 BTS (Broken Time Space)

That should speed up this deck (Note Lvl X must wait a turn to be played, you cant play them on the turn the Stage 2 was played or on the bench.)

The Pokemon Line should look something like this:

3-3-3-1 Flygon X
2-2-2 Hippowdon X
3 Lucario GL

Cut the Aerodactyl GL, and Rhyperior 4. Many better Trainers and Supporters for draw power and attack efficiency. This allows for Flygon to start the maddness, and Hippowdon to be a late game sniper. Flygon has free retreat, so its easy to then get Hippowdon out late game. FLygon acts as a wall, allowing you to set up Hippowdon. Lucario GL is for the increase in Weakness for both your opponent and you, however it benefits you in the long run.

Hope this helped!

Then you should have about 12 spaces for Energy:

10 {F}
2 DCE

Explanation

I never played this kind of deck but i think i get the jist of it so im going to try and help....

So i re-did some of your pokemone lines, since you only have two flygons it makes sense to go with a 2-2-2 flygon line, the hippo line is good.

Added 2 uxies and one azelf because their staples, very good card for all decks for draw power. They are a bit expensive so its up to you. maybe you can trade for them. Azelf to make sure that one hippo X is not prized.

3 Collectors because once again they're staples in every deck, helps you get your basics out. A bit expensive i reccomend trading, ebay or shopping around here to get them.

2 Interviwers question to help get energies out.

2 PONTS for hand refreshers

2 Seeker to pick up injured hippos, since with flygon they get free retreat so you can easily get an active hippo to the bench and pick em up w/ seeker.

2 Pokemon communication, search out your pokemans.

2 Expert belt to help tank with hippo giving extra hp and power.

I agree with potions or life herbs just to help keep hippo alive. I prefer Life herbs though.

Now the stark mountain is something i just put in to help move eneries around. It's to move energies from aerodactyl GL onto your hippos.

Broken Time space to speed up evolving to flygon, only reason i put one in is because its quite expensive.

Palmers contribution/ Flower shop lady are just like Aarons but more versatile. You can get more fighting energies and pokemon with palmers instead of aarons. If your worried about getting back energies just use NON X hippodowan first move that gets you your energy back to use the LVL X's move that discards them.

23 Fighting energy was a lot, 10 should be sufficient.

4 Double Colorless to set up hippo X's move faster. And it can be used for Flygons move just in case.

Thanks guys for your help I will definantly try some of those suggestions!
I will post an updated list when I have finished, cheers!

Edit: May I ask gengar_is_pwnage why is it beneficial to run a 2-2-2 Flygon line as it would then be harder to get out the Trapinch and Vibrava? Sorry if I have missed something entirely obvious.

This is why you play cards like Pokemon Collector, bebe's Search, Pokemon Communication and such to be able to search out the trapinch and vibrava without having to add in more of a pokemon that just becomes dead weight once you get out it's final stage (capacity utilisation is important for decks).

Ok thanks, my friend told me that I should sell this deck and try and make a Jumpluff deck. Is this true? Also will this deck be tournament legal after the rotation? Thank you for all your help guys!

I assume your reffering to the Hippowdon line, unless your really looking at Avocados post. His list shows a 2-2-2 Flygon. The Flygon line I posted is 3-3-3-1. The Hippowdon line is 2-2-2. The reason for Hippowdon being 2-2-2 is because hes late game. You only need him to tank once hes ready. Flygon gets out the wall for the set up. All this talk about it makes me wanna build it and test it myself LOL.

As for your deck situation, I'd build both, try this one out before Rotation. And play Pluff after. (Provided BTS doesnt get rotated).

Lol same here.

Though about the rotation thing, we dont know enough about it to state whether this deck will survive, cause it could be RR-on, in which case youd be okay, or HGSS-on in which then youd be needing a new deck, Like Jumpluff.

Its up to you really, but jumpluff has a longer life in the meta than flying hippo does.

Just updated my list with what I have added to the deck since you guys gave me your advice. I was wondering now is there anything else I need to add? I'm going to probably move onto a scizor prime/ umbreon deck soon but I was just want to know what other cards would be good editions. Thanks for your help the deck has undoubtedly improved since I was given your advice, thanks!

All you need is either one of the T/S/S (Trainer/Supporter/Stadium) lines that either me, or Avacado posted and you'll be on your way.
