From Shelgon SW's Focus Energy attack:

"During your next turn, Shelgon's Protect Charge attack's base damage is 80."

If I use Focus Energy, evolve into Salamence on my next turn, and use Memory Berry to use Protect Charge, do I do 80 damage because I used Focus Energy last turn, or 30 because it says Shelgon's Protect Charge attack?

I'm not really sure if that counts as self-referencing or not. Seems like it, but I thought I'd make sure.

When you use an attack from a lower level, you would treat the Salamence as if it were named Shelgon. But since you evolved, I would think all effects would be removed and Protect Charge wouldn't do 80 damage.

I would like a follow up answer from another TCG Rules Master though because this is one of those tricky questions.

While the general answer is correct, the bolded part isn't quite correct. Instead of 'changing the name' of Salamence, you replace Shelgon in the attack text with Salamence.

Any time a card self references itself, you replace the name with "this Pokemon," or when using Memory Berry you replace the name with "this Pokemon" or with the name of the highest stage.

Although it's self-referencing, when you evolve, all effects are removed anyway.

That's how I see it...

EDIT: Ninja'd eh? Then is my reasoning correct?

Considering that's pretty much Taylor's reasoning, that would be correct. ;p

...oh yeah. I am dumb.

Thanks guys.
