Ruling Format Problem? Well, Read this....

Well, regarding having so many Questions about the Formats of Pokemon TCG, I decided to give a Thread related to the Formats.

Basically, the Tounaments held at every area and shops will most likely have different rulings. The examples are Modified, Unlimited and Limted or Draft for Short.

Modified is a "Section" where the sets that you are able to use follows the ruling decided by POP, or Pokemon Organized Play. Here, a distance between 2 sets, and any sets released in between it can be used. For example, HP-on means Cards from EX Holon Phantoms to the latest set released, which is currently Diamond and Pearl: Secret Wonders. In conclusion, you can use any cards from that specific set chosen, along with other sets released after it.

Unlimited is also a Format where the most broken decks are played and borned. Feraligatr and Lockdown decks Dominated this format. Anyways, all cards ever released can be used here. This excludes some Japanese Cards that aren't and weren't released in the USA in the English Version. Slowking and Sneasel from Neo Genesis were banned when this set was included in the Modified format long ago. ______'s Birthday Pikachu and Anceint Mew were banned as well.

Limited or draft is well-known as Pre-releases which are tournaments which gives you the ability to play a deck with the next set's cards 2 weeks earlier. Another one is that when only chosen sets are only able to use. This means only cards from that specific sets can be used. For example, if the set chosen is Delta Species, means all cards in the deck must be from Delta species. This format for the tournament is rarely held at Shops and Areas.

Hope the guide above helps you with your Problem.

Thanks Abhorsen. Anyways, if you still have problems with the Formats, then drop me a PM.

Aside to that, Mods aren't bad....

After the final expansion of Diamond and Pearl is released and a new set has been announced will EX drop off of modified constructed? Just curious to know if Pokemon has a similar set rotation to Magic The Gatherings TypeII/Standard Constructed Format. Basically debating on investing in more EX HP, CG, DF and PK cards. Thank you for your patience.

Pokemon's rotation happens after the World Championships. It is safe to assume that the Ex sets will drop off.

LV-I'm not sure that meant, but I deleted the post. I was just jokeing about how long ago this post was made. (It was made when SW was the newest set).

And look at the Discus Thread. There is a link to the next format (no Ex)

can you use rare candies from pop 7 or holon phantoms in addition to rare candies from great encounters in the dp on series?

Yes. As long as the card is reprinted in one of the set that is legal in the format, you can use the card from the older set. For example, since Celio's Network was reprinted in EX Crystal Guardian, you can use the Celio's Network from EX Fire Red Leaf Green...

He was asking if you could still use candy pop 5 after the rotation. And yes, because the rare candy was reprinted in GE.

RE: Format Problem? Well, Read this...

Terribly sorry about posting in an old thread but this seemed to be the most appropriate place for it. With the introduction of the new Legends awakened, what cards will be legal in tournament play? Will it be the legends awakened and the last 2 sets? I'm trying to get into the whole tournament scene a little bit but I want to know what's legal and what isn't. Thanks in advance.

ACtually, no, it's the last five sets or so. Personally, I can't remember what the current number of DP-styled sets are up yet, but anything after Diamond and Pearl is legal.

I'm guessing that you've been playing Magic.
