I just want to confirm that Fortress' ability doesn't take effect when Wally is used.

Thorn Tempest
When you play this Pokémon from your hand to evolve 1 of your Pokémon, you may put 1 damage counter on each of your opponent's Pokémon.

Wally
Search your deck for a card that evolves from 1 of your Pokémon (excluding Pokémon-EX) and put it onto that Pokémon. (This counts as evolving that Pokémon.) Shuffle your deck afterward. You can use this card during your first turn or on a Pokémon that was put into play this turn.

You are correct in that Forretress' Thorn Tempest Ability will not activate if it is brought into play via Wally. This is because the card is not being "played from your hand," which is a requirement for the Ability's use. Instead, your evolution is coming from the deck, which does not satisfy this requirement. This applies to all cards which put evolutions into play directly from the deck, such as Evosoda, etc. Contrast this with playing Ultra Ball or something similar to search for Forretess and then immediately evolving your Pineco, which would trigger Thorn Tempest. This is different because Ultra Ball puts the card into your hand first, and then you play it normally, rather than using an effect to put a card onto the field directly from your deck.
