Ruling fossil question

Claw Fossil, Mysterious Fossil, and Root Fossil can not be put into play on the first player's initial turn. These cards CAN be put into play during the initial setup phase.


Does that mean you can play fossil at the start of a game as active
or benched, but not after you have drawn a card and start your turn?

Q. At the beginning of the game, can I start with a Mysterious/Claw/Root Fossil as my Active Pokémon even if I have another "real" Pokémon on the bench?
A. Yes, you can start with a Fossil Trainer card as your Active Pokémon, at the start of the game. (Oct 2, 2003 PUI Rules Team)

Q. Can I evolve Lileep or Anorith from a Mysterious Fossil or not?
A. No. Mysterious Fossil, Claw Fossil, and Root Fossil may not be freely interchanged to evolve into a different Pokémon than normally listed. (Sep 11, 2003 PUI Rules Team)

Q. Can you use trainers like "Pokémon Fan Club" or attacks like Dunsparce's "Strike and Run" to search for a Fossil trainer?
A. No. Fossil Trainer cards are only considered Basic Pokémon while in play, or in the special situation of starting the game. You cannot search your deck for them as if they were Pokémon (Oct 16, 2003 PUI Rules Team)

Q: Can cards like Multi Technical Machine 01 or the various Mystery Plates be used by Mystery/Claw/Root Fossil to provide a usable attack?
A. Mysterious/Claw/Root Fossil states that it "has no attacks of its own" which does not preclude you from giving one to the Fossil which it can attack with. (Sep 18, 2003 PUI Rules Team)

Q. The new Mysterious Fossil trainer from EX:Legend Maker now has 50hp rather than the old 10hp versions. Does this mean that I now play the older versions as 50hp too?

If yu are the beginning player, you can draw a card on your first turn but not play a trainer card. Fossils are trainer cards when not in play, so you can't play a fossil from your hand on your first turn of the game, if you win the coin toss.
