From Zero to Hero...

I only started playing TCG late last year but there is something I have been wanting to ask players who have been playing for years and seen many sets come and go. What is the biggest turnaround in effectiveness have you ever seen in a particular pokemon with the addition of a new set? I mean, what was a card that nobody was playing but then through a powerful new combination with the newest set, all of a sudden it was being used seemingly by every other player?

The reason I bring this up is because of the forthcoming combination potential between Luxray and Ampharos. As it is right now, *nobody* is playing Ampharos but undoubtedly it will be very common very soon.

Manectric-ex was just a tech, but then won Worlds.

Lugia-ex, Blasty, and Steelix-ex were all decent, but when DS came out it became one of the BDIF.

All I got right now. :[

Arcanine out.

hmmm, admin was actually not recognized at first. Manetric is definately one of the biggest stories, as is shiftry ex CG and eletrode ex.

Fossils and Shedinja: These cards were treated as trash and a waist of space. Then came a toad and made a sweet deck.

Ariados was pretty lame before DS came out.

And of course in my opion Sableye DX got passed over too.

Holon's Castform. At first people were like "Why would we want him when we got Magnetrode?". Then came more and more Delta Basics and voila.

Wow..how could I forget that? :/:/:/

Casty is huge. Last year it wasn't even that great, so we thought. Then bam, delta sets are printed and Casty becomes best starter in the game :/

Arcanine out.

Mawile PK and Mawile CG a bit too. While Mawile PK is by far the best counter-starter one can start with with its Pull Away, Mawile CG is one of the most useful starters in game that I can think of. Why get 5 random cards with H's Castform, when you can get just the card you need through a Trainer?

EDIT: Ah, I might as well say why they were 'zero' at first. Basically because all the d decks think they need Casty, instead of starters that actually allow you to gain an advantage over the opponent by disrupting HIS starter/Casty, which in the end proves to be just as helpful and often even more helpful than a Casty.

Reason casty wasn't huge was because of admin....admin kinda destoryed casty decks. Only reason why delta won nats was because it was faster then most decks and could avoid the admin rush. And PK mawile will be the play for non-delta decks.
