Gallade (BREAKthrough) in Vileplume Decks

Hey guys, I was thinking about how could I play the new Gallade from BREAKthrough in a Vileplume deck. While the obvious answer is using Maxie's Hidden Ball Trick, I see a problem in how do you reduce your hand to only Maxie whithout using items (you can't neither recover it from your discard pile using Vs Seeker).

Do you think it is possible to run both pokemon in the same deck? Or should I look for another one?

I'm wondering why you are trying to put Gallade and Vileplume together? Looking at the top 5 cards doesn't really feel like a significant advantage in a Vileplume deck, and there are many substitute for low-cost but high power Pokemon if Gallade's purpose if for attacking. Is there something I missed?

Since you can't use a item-based draw system, the deck is slower. So you need more efficient draws. If you're using a pokemon-based draw (Shaymin-EX, Unown...) with Gallade you're improving you're chances of drwaing the DCE/Lysandre/whatever you need not using the supporter of you're turn.

As you said, maybe it isn't a significant advantage, but it's something I think should be tried.

I think your idea makes sense, but it sounds too difficult to pull off to be consistent. Remember that Stage 2 Pokemon saw a decline in popularity when Seismitoad EX and it's Item lock debuted, and in Vileplume you're Item locking the entire board. This eliminates the opportunity to use Rare Candy or a Maxie's engine without significantly altering the structure of the deck, relying on luck, or delaying getting the Item lock down.

If decks could run 70 cards or something this might fit, but with 60 I just don't think you have the space to make it work.

I reckon that it will not be worth the trouble to getting Gallades out in a Vileplume for your stated purpose, through both the Maxie and Manual method. If you're planning on using this in Expanded, a copy or two of Lunatone PLB may be worthwhile to try. There is also a Misty card to be released in the next English set, so perhaps you could rework this idea later. :)

I forgot Misty ahahah. The only problem with her is that you can't use her the same turn as Lysandre D: but is better than nothing

Also, I'm thinking in standard (I have my Dugtrio/Eeveelutions for expanded), so sadly Lunatone is not an option u.u

Thanks to both for answering ^^

I think though Galade will be a great card. However, I think the strong counter for it will be buddy buddy - Honestly, I believe buddy buddy will be the biggest sleeper in the set. It limits the power of night march and vespquen and throws a monkey wrench in Archies and Maxies. Having said that, and played maxies and archies for a while, priorities are needed. Vileplume is high priority and so would be Galade. If you have two supper critical cards that need to be out on first turn, and require trick plays to get them out, it sort of bogs down the deck. Somebody throws a buddy buddy at you on second turn, or worse two buddy buddies and your forced to pull galade out of the discard and put it into your hand. And as it reads on the card, it looks like you can play the card even if you don't have a pokemon in your discard pile.

Sorry, but which card is buddy buddy?

The idea is that if your running battle compressor then why not use it in conjunction with buddy buddy, which basically allows you to get a pokemon in your hand.

For instance, if you were running a mega set, like Manetric, and you had a battle compressor, which is pretty commonly used in the deck, then why not battle compress for a mega manetric and buddy buddy for it into your hand. Then evolve into mega Manetric on same turn. What makes this card interesting is that it is any pokemon and it goes into your hand.

Max revive does it on second turn on top of the deck. <-- (ways around it but not commonly used)

Revive puts a basic pokemon on your bench. <--- Great for Unown

Buddy-buddy will do it on your turn to any pokemon and that allows you to get some of your Basics, stage 1's, 2's, and Megas out faster. I think when people realize the versatility of this card by running it with ultra balls they might be willing to take the risk on the downside of the card as it will speed their up decks up a bit.
But that's just my guess.

Oh, I couldn't find it in the Red Flash/Blue Impact scans. It seems a very interesting card, thinking about what you've said. Thanks for the info :)
