Hey there!

So i bought both Pokémon X and Y... X is mostly my main game, where i have all my transfered Pokémon... And Y has always just been.... Catching dust...

So now i'd like to have gameplay suggestions which would get me motivated to sometimes play my Pokémon Y over my Pokémon X...

My goal is to get a somewhat slightly different gameplay as my Pokémon X.

Also on my Pokémon X i got a male character... Some of my friends suggested to roll a female character on my Pokémon Y which would result is some different gameplay? Is this true?

Thanks in advance :D

RE: Gameplay suggestions for my Pokémon Y

It doesn't matter if you choose female character. Only big change is the clothes.
You can do Nuzlocke challange or mono type run ! Actually there are many options to play just make your own rules and you will feel like you are playing a different game.

RE: Gameplay suggestions for my Pokémon Y

What I did when I played Y after doing X was not use any of the same Pokemon I had used to beat the main story in X.

Another option that I tried before is to play without evolving any Pokemon. Really challanging to beat the elite four with Charmander and Pikachu lol.

Since Pokémon X and Y are mainly the same I made a slight change to the title.

I also bought both Pokémon X and Y, but didn't finish X yet for similar reasons. I'm mainly keeping X to use for new games when I am bored while I can continue using Y as my main game and use it for competitive battles.

You can do a re-run in different ways to make it differentiate from your other play-throughs. Something new people have been trying are Wonderlocke runs, where they catch the first Pokémon they encounter on each route and trade it for a random Pokémon with Wonder Trade.

As mentioned before, Nuzlockes make the game tougher to beat, and might make it more interesting that way.

You can also write a story on the forums about your play-through. Multiple members do this to share their adventure. It could motivate you to continue the game in order to finish the story.

Edit: Your in-game gender does not affect the story when you play the game.

That's one of the rules of the Christian playthrough which I've done a couple times. It's actually a pretty fun challenge but I personally prefer the Nuzlocke because I still think it's harder. There's usually a few strong basic Pokemon in a game that can do a lot of work.

dmaster out.

Try only using pokemon you'd otherwise never use, while avoiding going for the usual "cool elemental 3 stager"-stuff.
Like, say you were doing a HGSS playthrough and you're the kind of person that would use Typhlosion, Ampharos, an eeveelution... this time you'd go for a Hypno, Quagsire and a Fearow or something instead.
It's really interesting to see how pokemon grow on you that you usually don't even notice exists.

Or intentionally using pokemon that make the game challenging, like a Sunflora, or mostly slow defensive stuff instead of an obvious all sweeper team.

Thread title made me think it was about what you'd like to see in Z/XY2.

Yeah, self imposed challenges like Nuzlocke and monotype are good suggestions. Simply using a different team would be good enough even. Really not much else to do with this game anyway.

One thing I've done which is fun/challenging: whenever you'd switch out to a Pokemon with a type advantage over your opponents (eg Charmander over Bulbasaur), switch to one with a disadvantage to your opponent. (eg your Squirtle vs opponents Bulbasaur)
Of course when it gets later in game and you get more options for moves it can take some of the challenge away (in particular with Water types gaining Ice Beam) but its still a fun thing to do.

Another is a level restriction where you set a level limit for your Pokemon (depending on where you are in game) and don't go over the limit until you've accomplished something (usually Gym Leaders or some other important battle).

And then you have the Wonderlocke, which is basically a Nuzlocke but every Pokemon you catch is Wonder Traded for a different one. It can go one of two ways (I've found): either you get something super awesome (once I got a Gengar really early ingame) or something awful (I got a level one Froakie around Gym 7).
Although, the level one things can be useful if you get them early on, since then they train decently.

I definitely recommend a Wonderlocke; it was the most fun I've had playing a Pokémon game in some time. :D I ended up using a bunch of Pokémon that I wouldn't have otherwise, and every new route was like a present, since you never knew what you were going to get. My final team ended up being Raichu, Tyrantrum, Vaporeon, Aegislash, Arbok, and Gardevoir.
