I have finally gotten into EV training and have revised my old team slightly. I'm finding this team works well for me, but some critique would be fantastic.
Alakazam @ Life Orb
-Psychic // This or Psyshock?
-Focus Blast // Steels and Tyranitar mostly
-Energy Ball // Swamperts... Damn them!
-Shadow Ball // For other Psychics
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs and Nature:
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
My glass cannon. It really packs a metaphorical punch and is great for taking out Swampert and Tyranitar amongst others. I mainly use Alakazam when I need to clear something that isn't a complete tank as he need to OHKO or he's likely to be out very fast! I also make use of his decent speed!
Hydreigon @ Expert Belt
-Earthquake // Heatran and Electrics
-Draco Meteor // Brilliant STAB
-Fire Blast // Steels...
-Superpower // Special Walls
Ability: Levitate
EVs and Nature:
EVs: 100 Atk / 216 SAtk / 192 Spd
Rash Nature (+SAtk, -SDef)
I used Hydreigon when there is a range of Pokémon that need to be taken out and can easily be done with a good Draco Meteor. Fire Blast takes out Scizor and Ferrothorn easily. I use Earthquake is mainly good for Heatran and Superpower really hurts Blissey. He's very diverse and has pretty good speed!
Volcarona @ Air Balloon // Any other suggestions?
- Fiery Dance // STAB and boost
- Bug Buzz // Psychic coverage and good STAB
- Quiver Dance // Adds bulk, power and speed
- Giga Drain // Heals back Stealth Rock damage and gives good damage to water and ground if needed.
Ability: Flame Body
EVs and Nature:
EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
Volcarona is nice when I need some Special Bulk and Quiver Dance really helps this! One Fire Blast takes out a lot of Pokémon but his main use are for Steel, Dark and Psychic threats. Giga Drain is a good move to regain some health (especially stealth rock) and works well on Volcarona's main counters (bulky water and rock) that are weakened.
Gyarados @ Lum Berry
- Dragon Dance // Boooooost.
- Waterfall // Powerful STAB
- Ice Fang // Dragons!
- Earthquake // Heatran, Steels plus Electric Threats
Ability: Intimidate
EVs and Nature:
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
My main attacker really. Again, Waterfall is fantastic and does some good damage. Ice Fang takes out Gliscor and common dragons with 2 hits or less if I get to boost with Dragon Dance. I pair him with my Gliscor to avoid electric hits.
Metagross @ Leftovers
-Hammer Arm // Pink blobs and some steels
-Thunder Punch // Water Pokes and some flying things
-Meteor Mash // Great STAB
-Bullet Punch // Priority for those revenge kills
Ability: Clear Body
EVs and Nature:
EVs: 252 HP / 96 Atk /
160 SDef
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
This fella gets me out of trouble a lot, just so long as I avoid the Earthquakes and Fire! I often use Metagross with one of my 3 Levitating/Flying Pokémon to counter this. Metagross hits like a truck with Meteor Mash and Hammer Arm. Thunder Punch helps me take out water-types that I often have problems with as well as Tornadus. Bullet Punch gets me out of trouble and can revenge kill weak leftover Pokémon.
Gliscor @ Toxic Orb
-Earthquake // Good STAB, needed physical move incase of Taunt
-Roost // Not banned on Random Matchup and casual battles which I play. A lot of health is restored!
-Toxic // Wears down bulk
-Taunt // Mainly here to stop Trick Room and bulk
Ability: Poison Heal
EVs and Nature:
EVs: 244 HP / 248 Def / 16 Spe
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
I use Gligar when I need to stop Trick Room Pokémon with Taunt. He also really helps wear down bulky Pokémon with Toxic. Roost allows me gain back any lost health. He's great for absorbing physical hits too, which can come in handy at times.
