No, you need to be KOed by damage, not from anything else. Just damage.

Gengar's Poke-power is only activated when an opponent's Pokemon uses an attack to knock it out.

If a stadium (like Cursed Stone) knocked out Gengar then no damage counters are given to your opponent's Pokemon.
