Getting my friend(s) into the game...What to start with?

So I'm planning on getting a friend or more into the TCG.
I dunno what to start with, though. Obviously the basics/rules.
But...What's a good method for that?

I don't wanna beat him over and over, cause that may make him...not enjoy the game.
So, essentially, I'm asking if there's an easy way to play the game that doesn't use TOO much skill.
Like a simple deck.
Or something

Magmortar is a fun deck, and if you made it, and made him something, it could work!

First, buy theme decks and face off using those so he can get the hang of it. Then, introduce everything he needs to know to build a good deck. Synergy, good cards, no pyramid lines, etc. Then you can pound him into the ground. :p

I'd like to start kinda fast...
Theme Decks aren't gonna work well.

I was thinking maybe make two 30/40 card decks with some basic strategies to teach him the good stuff in a simple manner.
May work, may not.
I'll see what happens.

Buy a theme deck and show it to him. Then show him the flaws in the construction of the deck, and tell him what Synergy, Pyramid lines, etc are.
If you have enough cards, lend him a deck that works, or have him order the stuff for a cheap T2
deck. (I.E. Scizor Cherrim) Have him look at the scans here, so he knows what things do, and if he enters tournaments he doesn't look like a n00b when he has to sit and read the cards.
I know a guy at my League who started playing recently, but his friends set him up with a Machamp deck and he does OK. They told him all the rulings and what the cards do.
Good luck, I have trained several people in the ways of Pokemon successfully, so I hoped I helped.

Like, ones that don't include ordering/spending too much money?

Maybe create a deck that is similar to a Theme Deck: pyramid lines, no synergy, potions, energy searches, etc. Theme deck is actually a good start to teaching someone to play.

Just get the theme deck then, show him that, then just show him, I guess, how to build a deck.
Pokegym/Beach are the way I learned how. Tell him all the Abbreviations, like BTS, or a 2-1-2 line of something.
Once he figures out how to play well and enjoys the game he will either Trade or Buy the stuff on his own... some people don't like it though. You can always make Proxies, too, and eventually through trading/Buying Gradually he will get all the cards he needs. You can always just make do with what you have, make a Semi-good deck without RH Claydols, but still playable. I just picked out the somewhat good stuff out of what my friend has, and made him a deck with that.

Yeah, it might seem like theme decks are haphazardly created and aren't good for much other than a source of basic Energy cards, but they seem to be designed so that they're easy to understand. Playing theme deck vs. theme deck is a great way to allow someone to learn the rules, and since theme decks play slowly, they can learn at their own pace.

Well, they're not crud for a beginner.

All cards in a preconstructed deck are easy to understand. As long as you give your friend the time needed to read everything, there's nothing that should be ambiguous.

it depends on your friend's personality, i got a friend in the game by beating him every time, he felt... beated, so he constructed decks to be not-beated, and beat me.
so if you have a competetive friend, beat him twice, and the 3rd time, let him beat you on the spot, that way, he feels like he has a chance, and he wants to make that chance bigger so he wins more

Teach him the rules which is pretty easy with an online demo. Then, teach him the cards by showing him different cards, show him your awesome deck, etc. Theme decks are always an option, and they're not that terrible, especially for a beginner. Now if you want to teach him fast for Regionals or something, get him a deckbox and dice, and fix him up with a nice deck and play-test against each other. It's really not that hard to ease in, as I've seen little kids do it on their own. Years ago, it didn't seem that easy to me. x_x

dmaster out.
