Getting Started

I've collected Pokemon TCG before but never really competitively battled before. From what I've seen (which is not very much) it looks fun. Can anyone give me advice on how to get started?

*Mods please move this if this is in the wrong spot. I've never browsed this section of forums before*

It can be a lot of fun if you're somewhere with a good bunch to play with. Your best bet is to start by trying to get staple cards - Prof Oak's New Theory, Collector, Communication, Spiritomb AR, Judge, and then focus on getting cards for a deck, preferably but not necessarily one that'll be around next format.

Find a local Pokemon League.

If the League is worth its salt the players there can show you the ropes, show you what's good, and offer deck building advice. That, and the League promo cards are pretty nice.

And (shameless plug) just surf around in the TCG sections here on PokeBeach. Post a deck along with an idea of what you'd like the deck to do, and I'm sure any of the players here would chime in on how to make it better.

Gotta agree with Breen on leagues; they're a great resource for any player to meet people, trade for stuff, get promos, and get help building a good deck.
