Gifs and Sigs.

I know this probably won't be popular, but large images and especially gifs heavily impact the loading time of pages without really adding anything positive, the site alone takes up enough of my browsers capability that every time I come across a gif in a sig it gives me the pinwheel of doom. I'm sure many other people have the same issues with gifs slowing down pages, so my request is that gifs be banned from sigs, or be made a privilege to a certain level of members.

Yeah, I'm having the same problem. I'm getting really annoyed with scrolling down half a page and then everything freezing up for a whole minute only to have everything work again and be looking at a Boxxy gif. Now I have to scroll super slow on pages where I know there are gifs so that I can allow time for the gif to load.
 
Its really only an issue for me if I am browsing using my dsi. My laptop gif signatures don't slow down a lot. I know at least for dsi, you can change it to download images off. I believe under User CP there is also an option to not view avatars and signatures. Once in User CP, click edit options. THen uncheck the boxes that say display signatures and possibly avatars if they are giving you a hard time loading also.
 
I turned off the ability to see signatures a long time ago...

I am inclined to agree with the OP though, and back up Alakapimp's proposal (restrictions also applying to staff members). Nobody should have to disable all sigs just to avoid the few bandwidth hoggers. For the same reasons, I also support banning GIFs from avatars.
 
Perhaps just a size limit for gif images. That would allow people to still use an animated image, but make it be more restrictive.
 
When I used my mom's laptop(before she got a new one), whenever I would look at a thread with an animated gif(looks at Mr. 619's sig lol) it would slow down A LOT. Haha. It doesn't bother me that much, but it does slow it down, something I don't like. So I would like to see a size restriction, but I still think GIFs are cool to see.

But yeah, I'd be all for banning of gifs and shizz. They can be a tad annoying; while they aren't really as bad for me (my laptop is amazingly fast) they can still cause the page to lag a little and I know for other members it can be a bit of a problem.
 
I use IE8 to make myself suffer, and the page will lag whether there's a GIF or not, but if it causes too much trouble for most members, I'd also like the mods to look into this.

EDIT: I do use Firefox and Chrome, but it's a weird habit of mine to use IE for Pokebeach, so yeah.

Can you give examples of the problem. Pokebeach runs fast for me in both IE8 and Firefox.
